Mother Confronts Her Mother-In-Law For Building A Nursery In Her House For Her Baby

When you’re expecting a little one, creating a cozy nursery becomes essential for many parents-to-be. Initially, your newborn might share your room, allowing for easy monitoring, but eventually, reclaiming your space becomes a priority. Just like adults need their own bedrooms for relaxation, babies need their safe haven too.

To create a welcoming environment for your child, you can decorate the nursery with cute furnishings and baby essentials. Traditionally, nurseries are set up in the parent’s home, but that’s not the case in this story.

Reddit user Jamieriiots, 14 weeks pregnant, noticed her mother-in-law’s overwhelming excitement upon hearing the news. While it seemed wonderful at first, things took a surprising turn. The mother-in-law began preparations for the baby shower and even started buying items for a nursery – not in the expecting parents’ home, but in her own.

This left the expecting mom perplexed and seeking advice online on how to handle the situation.

1. I must add, all Grandma’s love going over the board for their grandchildren.

2. OP shared that she and her husband are pregnant with their first child, and her MIL is extremely excited about the baby.

3. OP’s concerns revolved around the excitement of her MIL.

4. While OP is only 3.5 months pregnant, her MIL has already started preparations for the baby shower, themed decorations, and whatnot.

5. OP and her husband went to a baby store and took MIL along. She ended up buying the entire shop for her grandchild, but the stuff was all to be set up at her own house, not OP’s.

I think OP is overreacting a bit. MIL is about to become a grandmother for the first time. That new position or honor has an excitement of its own. OP should let her enjoy this phase. Not for once has MIL hinted at taking permanent possession of the baby—not yet.

OP would be an AH if she started distancing her child from its grandmother. That would be so unfair. Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

6. While OP has nothing on her mind, her MIL is building an entire nursery for a child who still has at least 5.5 months to arrive.

7. OP thought her MIL would help her build a nursery, but that wasn’t the case.

8. OP fears MIL would take her baby away and become its mother instead of its grandmother.

9. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.
