Pregnant Woman In Naming Conflict As Partner Insists On Honoring Late Friend And Family Tradition, Drama Ensues

pregnant-woman-fi

Choosing a child’s name is a deeply emotional journey, often influenced by family traditions and memories. A 35-week pregnant Reddit user shared her experience with this complex decision. Early in her pregnancy, the name for her daughter was suggested by her partner, in honor of his friend who d*ed while serving in the British Army.

When the topic of middle names came up, he proposed his mother’s middle name, expecting her to agree. Though she liked his family, she wanted a say in the middle name. She suggested either she pick the middle name or the baby wouldn’t have one.

After he rejected her compromise of using his mother’s middle name but with her last name, she suggested leaving out a middle name if they couldn’t agree. Her partner argued that everyone in his family had a middle name.

Now, she wonders if her stance is fair. Scroll down below to enjoy!

1. It is never a unilateral decision, as far as I know. Let’s find out!

2. OP is about to have a baby, and many conversations over naming their daughter have taken place.

3. The couple had decided on the name of their daughter way before, however, the discussions with the family would still end up in arguments.

4. The couple had decided to name their daughter after her husband’s friend, who had passed away while serving in the British Army.

5. OP had tried suggesting some names, but her husband turned down every single one of them.

6. When the topic of a middle name came up, the husband wanted it to be his mother’s middle name.

7. OP was fine with the name but didn’t like that her husband didn’t take her input for the middle name either.

8. OP made it clear to her husband that either she would pick the middle name or their daughter wouldn’t get a middle name.

I think this is getting a bit too much with the middle name now. Like, it was fine until the first name. Fine, because OP and her husband mutually agreed to name their daughter after his friend. But you could sense some tension there too, as OP mentioned she suggested 20 names, but he turned all of them down.

Anyway, the real problem is with the middle name. It’s like he is not giving her any option or letting her have a say in the name decision. A big thing, to be honest. She is carrying the baby and will be birthing it soon. It would be extremely unfair if she didn’t get to have a say in her baby’s name.

9. The husband once again turned down OP’s decision by saying his mother would love it if they named their daughter after her.

10. OP was not in favor of giving their daughter a middle name, which the two didn’t mutually agree upon.

11. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community!
