CEOs and business owners might start companies, but it’s the employees who determine their success or failure. A business that values and fairly compensates its employees is more likely to be sustainable. Once you find the right people, it’s essential to retain them by showing genuine care and appreciation.

In today’s story, Reddit user anon-cant-quit shared how she outsmarted her former boss after being told she was replaceable. Despite going above and beyond her job description, she received a smaller bonus than her team. When she inquired, she was told it was because she was replaceable. Instead of reacting in anger, she calmly planned her next move, leading to significant repercussions for her ex-boss

1. Oh, the adrenaline rush I get from such titles.

2. While at her previous job, OP worked at a company that went on to become the best in its line of business.

3. OP loved it there and was performing at her best.

4. She was handling almost all of the business and would easily receive a full rating on every appraisal.

5. However, during a bonus period after spending five years in the company, OP received a bonus that was much less compared to her previous rewards.

6. When OP asked her boss to rationalize the low bonus, he replied by saying OP was easily replaceable, so her bonus was low.

7. OP decided not to make a rash decision and chose to discuss the matter with her husband.

8. The couple decided to go on a vacation and discuss the matter in detail over there.

9. It was decided that OP would resign on her first working day after vacation, but her boss, out of rage, had already fired her.

10. After being fired, OP started a competitive business offering similar services but with more customizable options.

11. While doing so, OP also kept an eye on how her previous company was doing.

That company is going downhill. It will cease to exist for one reason only. The boss there does not recognize his employees’ efforts. A business only succeeds if the foundation is strong and that foundation is built through the efforts the employees put in.

I don’t understand how companies hire such terrible people to boss the company.

12. The morale of customers and employees was going down sharply at the previous company.

13. While 3 people were hired to cover OP’s position, so many workers from OP’s old team quickly left and applied to her company.

14. While OP’s business began succeeding in no time, her old company turned to dust in no time.

15. Even the ex-boss was found searching for a job and he applied for a position at OP’s husband’s company. OP suggested they have someone fun with the ex-boss with some taunts and pinches, but her husband refused saying it would be too much.

16. This was a brilliant revenge. Never make your employees feel they are not wanted.

20. It is simple. Just don’t force them to take that route that makes you regret it.

21. It is the employees who add the most value but they don’t understand that by word of mouth. They understand that after firing the best employees and having the business d*e because of that terrible decision.
