Employee Let Everyone Know That She Was The Only One From Department Not Invited To Coworker’s Wedding, Asks If She’s Wrong

In a department of eleven coworkers, one woman found herself the only person not invited to a colleague’s wedding. The bride had told her the event was being kept small to avoid extravagance, while the rest of the team was informed that she couldn’t attend.

After the wedding, during a meeting where the event was being discussed, a coworker expressed regret that OP couldn’t make it. OP clarified that she wasn’t invited at all, which visibly upset the bride. Their relationship has since turned cold. Further tension arose when a departmental celebration for the bride was scheduled without consideration for OP’s availability, despite her contributing to the gift. She suspects another coworker, the bride’s close friend, might be behind all this.

1. The only one? That’s harsh. Let’s dive in.

2. OP’s coworker had her wedding coming up, and the entire department was invited except OP.

3. The bride couldn’t control her embarrassment after hearing OP say she wasn’t invited to the wedding in front of the whole department, in response to a coworker asking why he didn’t come.

4. There was an office dinner planned to celebrate the coworker’s wedding, which OP couldn’t attend because she had other commitments, but she still contributed to the gift.

5. The bride and one of her friends had organized the dinner, and OP wasn’t even involved in the discussion to finalize the dates.

6. This led OP to believe there was something bigger cooking at the back that she didn’t know of; perhaps the bride and her friend are up to something. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.

Here are some of the comments shared on the story:

Ideally, all the members of the department should have been invited. You can still make some ground for some being invited and others not. But, man, inviting everyone except one worker is unacceptable. As if the bride had a personal grudge against OP. Or was it the friend? I really wish there was an update to this story because that cliffhanger at the end has gotten me curious. OP still ended up contributing to the gift for that woman. OP, courtesy is contagious!

11. I don’t understand how she thought no one would bring OP’s absence up and she would get away with it.

15. In a cost-benefit analysis, the more guests you invite, the more profitable the wedding is. OP missed her chance.

20. Whatever the master plan is, it took a big hit as OP revealed the bride’s true colors before the whole department.

People really don’t like facing the truth, huh? The face of the bride turned red for one reason only: she knew she did wrong by not inviting OP. And if her face turned red, it meant someone else had forced her to make this decision. So unfortunate! The professional relationship between OP and the bride will definitely take a hit because, no matter how much you say, personal affects professionals.
