Being a breadwinner in today’s time is not an easy job at all and stereotypically being the male in character in the family, you are automatically considered to take on this responsibility. After spending so many years taking high-quality education to get a degree in a specialized field, you expect to get a job and get paid high to meet the exhaustive efforts you made to start your challenging and stressful career (no career is easy). But given how competitive the corporate world is, it is so not easy to land a job as a fresh graduate. Organizations are always on the lookout for individuals with experience. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any organizations that don’t hire fresh graduates. They do exist. Suppose you have an engineering degree, you will find places that accept fresh graduates at an acceptable pa. And no one would want to go anywhere that pays less than that acceptable pay.
It is clear that an employee will not apply to companies that underpay. But what if someone connects with a company that pays you well but right at the time of the interview, they switch up the entire pay policy and drop your salary drastically down, what is supposed to be done then? This is something that happened with Reddit user WaterFidec who got called for an interview by a company that mentioned clearly that they would pay $40,000 a year for the credential OP has but at the interview table when the topic of salary came up, the interviewers mentioned they will be paying OP $8/hour. The job also turned into a contract-based job and the company was probably going to close its doors on him after the project ended.

Don’t worry, we are in this together.

This is so sad and scary at the same time. If I think of my situation, there’s only 1 semester left till I complete my degree and start looking for jobs. After reading for happened with OP who holds an engineering degree and also has some experience under his belt, my degree in finance with no experience won’t even get me $8 per hour. This is terrible. But I honestly feel like OP shouldn’t give up and keep searching for jobs because there are companies that honor and respect effort.
Hopefully, OP will land a satisfying job that will help him come with his financial matters.
