Karen Manager Secretly Reschedule Employee’s Work Hours, Employee Quits, Management Begs Her To Comeback

Have you ever had a manager who seemed to have it out for you for no reason? We call these types of managers “Karens.” They have a chip on their shoulder and go out of their way to make your life h*ll. So, what should you do in these situations? Ideally, you’d remove yourself from their presence as quickly as possible. But that’s not always easy, as one daycare teacher found out when her Karen manager tricked her into quitting.

The teacher had requested vacation days many months in advance, which were approved. However, the Karen manager only penciled it into the calendar. Then, she erased the teacher’s approved time off.

1. These workplace stories are getting out of hand.

2. The tale starts off in 2021 when OP begins her first job at a daycare owned by a family.

3. Good thing that the family is great. But the management? It appears, not so much.

4. OP had to work with a Karen as her manager. We can already see where this is going.

5. Karen didn’t treat OP well right from the beginning and would burden her with so many tasks that would normally be divided among multiple workers.

6. She even had to clean up a kid’s diarrhea that leaked everywhere.

7. That last point, though. I wonder what that is about.

If I was OP, I would’ve gotten the hint by now.

8. OP joined in the summer of 2021 and had a family trip planned for November.

Polar Express? I am so jealous!

9. To avoid the hassle, OP got her leave application approved way in advance. Or at least that is what she thought she did.

10. November finally arrived. She had her leave approved for the month-end, but when she went to double-check, her approved time off wasn’t marked in the calendar anymore.

11. The morning manager said they don’t keep the paperwork anymore, so she would have to find coverage herself if she wanted to take that day off.

12. OP looked after a big classroom, so when she asked the midday girl for advice, she was given good hopes.

13. However, Karen had a scheme planned already. OP now had to find a morning woman to cover for her.

14. Without thinking about how easily Karen fooled OP, she started looking for replacements.

15. It took 3 weeks, but OP finally found 3 people to cover for her, but according to Karen, they had other rooms to cover that day.

16. When OP discussed this with the morning manager and saw the schedule herself, she noted the calendar was being manually amended by someone to make sure no one could be available to cover OP’s shift.

Outrageous! Just fire OP. What is the point of these mind games? People have so much free time on their hands. I already know where this is going. OP will be forced to quit. And why? Nobody knows. Karen needs to take a chill pill. OP must report her to labor relations for playing these mind games. It is so obvious she is behind all this.

17. With only a week left in her trip, OP was not happy about being screwed over without any reason.

18. With an arrangement OP realized would be easy for the midday lady to handle, OP decided she was going to take her approved time off no matter what.

19. And she did. OP left for a vacation, and while she enjoyed her Polar Express ride, she didn’t respond to any texts or calls from Karen.

20. When OP returned on Monday, she got called into a meeting with all three managers, where Karen decided for OP that she had quit the job for being a no-call-no-show on Friday.

21. The other two managers knew this was wrong and didn’t say a word as it all happened. With no options left, OP said goodbye.

22. The next day, OP’s dad came in with her to talk with the morning manager about what had happened.

23. The morning manager couldn’t support Karen’s decision when inquired about it, as it was a wrong decision.

24. On her final day, OP said her goodbyes to all the kids, the parents, and the kind morning and midday managers.

25. They wanted OP to stay, but she said she would never work for Karen.

26. Karen had a personal grudge against OP, that is for sure.

27. Karen knew exactly what was happening and had planned her every move in advance.

28. Bad timing. Or else Karen would have been crying before the court.

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

29. This could be illegal, depending on where OP lives. All options must be explored.
