Kid Rules

Each family is unique.

Every family has its own set of traditions, routines, and quirks that make their home unique. These traditions can range from specific ways to celebrate holidays to daily rituals that bring family members closer together. For example, some families may have a tradition of cooking a special meal together every Sunday, whereas others may have a nightly family walk after dinner. These unique customs help to strengthen family bonds and create lasting memories.

You may not even be aware that your family does something different because that is what you grew up with. Many of us only notice the differences when we visit someone else’s home and realise that not everyone is the same. These traditions also give family members a sense of stability and continuity, which helps them develop a sense of identity and belonging within the family unit. Embracing these customs can help us honour our heritage while also connecting with our loved ones. However, some of these ‘traditions’ are simply strange and not particularly serious.

I’m sure every family has some strange family tradition that you didn’t realise was unique to yours. For example, my mother insisted on only showering once a day, especially during the summer. It was not because she wanted to save water or anything like that. That is just one example; I am sure we all have unique memories from our childhoods. Some families have unusual holiday traditions or eccentric habits that may appear strange to others. These small quirks are what distinguish and make each family unique.
