Nobody likes the homeowners association.

The homeowners association, also known as the HOA, is an organisation that establishes and enforces rules and regulations for residents in a particular community. While the HOA’s goal is to maintain property values and foster a sense of community, many homeowners are frustrated by the association’s strict guidelines and fees. The HOA’s negative reputation stems from stories of board members ab*sing their power, excessive fines, and disputes over seemingly minor issues.

It’s as if they exist solely to make life more miserable. Not only that, but many HOAs ab*se their power, especially if they have a few individuals who only work for an HOA because of the power they wield over their neighbours. Homeowners frequently feel as if their voices are not heard and that they have little control over decisions that affect their property. This lack of transparency and accountability may cause ongoing tension between residents and the HOA board. For example, in the following story, it is clear that the HOA is intentionally making everyone’s life difficult for no reason.

I have never read a story where the HOA was the one in the right.

OP’s boss had parked his car on the street close to the sidewalk for only a few minutes to get something from his house.

In these few minutes, the HOA had put a boot on his car and fined him 200 dollars, so he called OP and asked for an angle grinder to cut off the boot.

This only escalated the situation, as now the HOA wanted money for the boot and the parking fine.

Things only kept getting worse as OP’s boss continued to cut off the boot from his and his neighbour’s cars.

This resulted in the HOA increasing the monthly fee by 75 dollars since they had lost a lot of money.

Not only that, but the HOA stopped putting boots on people’s cars because there was no use, as the OP and his boss kept booting the HOA’s president’s car.

People in the neighbourhood have had enough of their HOA and are standing up against the injustice now, which is a win in OP’s book.

I’m sure it all started because of money. The HOA only uses these tools and complains about illegal parking so that they can collect fines and other fees. Not only that, but they are obviously being extremely petty. Of course, OP’s boss is not helping matters by constantly breaking their tools, but I believe his response is justified. The only way to resolve this issue is to go to court, as the HOA appears to be only getting worse.

Going to court might be a good idea at this point.

I would say the answer is because of money.

Getting new people into the HOA might be a good idea as well.

They deserve all they get and more.

Why do some places even have HOAs?

They’re the ones who should be in trouble.
