Acting Boss Fires A Newly Hired Employee, Asks If They Went Far While Their Boss Wasn’t Present

In today’s story, Reddit user notasentientsquirrel found himself in a tricky situation. While his boss was on a three-week holiday, OP was put in charge and had to manage a newly hired employee. During a catch-up meeting, the new hire shared a concerning story about her previous job, where she claimed to have destroyed all her work and systems after being denied a raise. She recounted this with a sense of pride, which alarmed OP, given the sensitive and confidential nature of their current workplace. Believing this behavior indicated a lack of integrity and professionalism, OP fired the new hire.

As the new hire got upset, many workers went against OP, saying he should’ve waited for the boss to return. Scroll down below to read how it all went down.

1. Let’s find out!

2. OP’s boss left him in charge before vacationing. He also hired a new girl just before leaving.

3. After having a meeting with the new girl, OP realized she wasn’t a normal worker and had some self-esteem issues.

4. She told OP her last job called her back, but she didn’t like them and wanted to stay where she was.

5. When they refused the salary increment she demanded, she deleted all their key files, shredded confidential hardcopies, and quit the job.

6. She found the story funny and informed OP of this act with a lot of pride. OP cut the meeting short, finding her a very insensitive and dangerous worker, and fired the girl.

7. He thought the girl may have put their confidential information at a huge risk if an event of the same nature occurred.

8. The girl was upset, and a lot of people on the team called OP an AH, saying he should’ve waited for the boss to return.

9. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.

Sometimes being in charge means making decisions that will p**s off the masses, even if you’re right. OP was put in charge by the boss, which means he trusted OP with all the decisions that a boss would take, which includes firing an employee. At the very core of any company is the data that it builds upon, you cannot risk losing it. If there is someone on the team you fear would meddle with that data by either leaking it or, even worse, deleting it from the root, you are bound to be concerned as a boss. But we are going to have to wait for the actual boss to return from vacation to see how good or bad OP’s decision was.

Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

10. Before the boss arrived, OP prepared documents and reports containing events and statements regarding everything that happened. He was ready for the big meeting!

11. The boss heard a colleague’s opinion first and framed OP as the bad guy.

12. OP was framed like a power-hungry guy who negatively used the power of his boss’ seats to trick the girl into sacking her.

13. OP then shared his side of the story, explaining everything that happened right to the dot.

14. OP told his boss he got clearance from HR before firing the girl.

15. OP also asked his coworkers to perform a check on the girl’s account to make sure she hadn’t done something fishy with the data.

16. The boss agreed that firing the girl was in the company’s best interest. He also approved of the person OP hired in the girl’s place.

17. He told OP to at least give him a heads-up before taking such a decision, in the future, which is fair.

18. Could it be that girl? We can’t be sure given her history, it could be her.

19. The competitors said they laughed the matter off as the person who called had no idea of the industry and it seemed like a prank call.

20. Letting that matter slide, for the time being, OP was relieved that his boss opined in his favor.

That little part in the update that OP shared has got me thinking. That could have gone terribly badly for OP and his company. It is just that the person didn’t know how to make such calls. It could be that girl, you never know. She had treated his previous company terribly before leaving, deleting all their important data. There is a possibility she wanted to do something similar to OP’s company after being fired. We have to remain optimistic and believe it was nothing but a prank call.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this one. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
