In large families, having cousins with the same name might not be an issue; they’ll likely get nicknames and not be called by their actual names. However, some families would be horrified by such duplications.
If your sibling has a strong preference for a particular name and is saving it for their future child, using that name can seem spiteful—unless you genuinely didn’t know. This was the case when a new father faced his furious sister demanding he change his newborn son’s name.

3. OP wanted to name his son Finnick, but his sister Jade couldn’t stand the fact that he had chosen that name.
4. Jade said the name is reserved for her baby, and OP laughed hysterically at that.
5. The parents sided with Jade. OP kept firm on his stance by telling Jade to buy the names she wanted to reserve if she wanted it that way.
6. While OP considered it an outrageous demand, his parents felt OP could’ve given his sister some cushion.
7. When OP’s parents argued, he kicked them out too. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.
