According to research, dogs actually don’t like to hug. While it depends on the dog, most dogs usually prefer to snuggle with you or play with you rather than a proper hug. So it is always recommended to wait until your pet approaches you themself and lays on your lap rather than forcing them in a hug. This way you can build a strong bond of trust.
