Before making any major financial decisions, you should consult with your partner.

Before making any major financial decisions, you should communicate openly and honestly with your partner. Discussing finances can help prevent future misunderstandings, conflicts, and financial strain. Working together allows you to make more informed decisions that will benefit both of you in the long run. It is also critical to establish shared goals and priorities so that you are both on the same page about your financial future. Setting a budget and reviewing your financial situation regularly can help keep your relationship transparent and trustworthy.

Compromise is essential in any relationship. That is why, no matter what the issue is, you must discuss it with your partner. I am not saying you can’t do whatever you want, but once you’re in a relationship, decisions that will affect both of you in the future should be discussed together. That is basically the only way to maintain a healthy relationship with each other. However, the original poster’s boyfriend did not understand this.

It is important to talk with your partner before you make a financial decision.

OP has talked to her boyfriend about their combined future and even moving in together before.

However, all of her dreams went down the drain when she realised he had bought a $87k truck.

When she tried to reason with him, he was adamant that it was his money, and she didn’t have any say in it.

This is why OP has decided to renew her lease on her apartment rather than move in with her boyfriend.

Quite a few people have reached out to OP and called her unloyal for basically ‘abandoning’ him.

OP reasons that he brought this upon himself, and nobody made him buy a truck.

OP has also tried to talk it out with her boyfriend so he would return the truck, as it is already affecting his finances.

OP thinks the relationship is on its last legs, and she won’t help him pay for the truck.

We also get a bit more information on how the guy never actually needed the work for anything.

It also seems like most of their friends have kept their noses out of this mess as a whole.

How did this guy think that behaving like this was acceptable? If he had done this without intending to move in with his girlfriend, it would have been a poor financial decision, but it would not have affected her. However, he did this knowing that she would cover all of their other expenses in order for him to get the truck. This has nothing to do with loyalty; he wasn’t hurt or fired. I believe OP did the right thing by leaving him to sort out his own mess.

It is quite clear that he was banking on her to pay for everything.

It was an awful financial decision.

Who makes big financial decisions without talking with their partner?

It would be a good decision to break up with him.

Better late than never.

While I don’t know his personality personally, it isn’t looking good.

People who aren’t good with their money?

This is what I’ve been wondering as well.

He needs to take responsibility for his actions.
