Not everyone wants children around.
Some people find the idea of having children unappealing. Not everyone wants to have children, whether for personal or lifestyle reasons. For many people, the sound of children laughing brings joy, while for others, it causes headaches. I don’t believe either of these situations is better or worse than the other. It simply depends on the individual, and their boundaries should be respected.
While I am not implying that childless people despise children, it is similar to how not all parents love all children. That is certainly true in the following story. The OP does not want their neighbours’ children to run around in their garden on Easter. I don’t know about you, but that sounds reasonable, and rejecting the request should not be interpreted as a rude gesture. However, rather than accepting the rejection, the neighbours continued to pester OP to listen to them. It was as if the OP had done something wrong by declining the request.

Easter is definitely a fun time, especially for kids who get to eat a lot of chocolate.

This particular Easter, however, wasn’t as fun for OP, and it was all because of his neighbours and their demands.

The neighbours wanted to fry Easter eggs in OP’s backyard, but OP denied that request.

The neighbours asked him more than three times, and each time the answer was a no from OP’s side.

However, one day OP’s car was in the driveway, and the neighbours thought nobody was home.

The neighbours hid the Easter eggs in their backyard anyway, and they were caught doing it on the security camera as well.

OP was obviously annoyed by this and let the neighbours know clearly that it wasn’t okay to pick up all the eggs from his yard.

Rather than getting embarrassed, the neighbours got mad at him and kept glaring at him while they had the Easter party in their yard.

The neighbours still weren’t letting it go and said as much to the OP.

OP isn’t sure whether what he did was right after he calmed down and wasn’t so angry.

While it must have been exhausting for the father to sort through all of the Easter eggs before his family arrived home, it was ultimately his fault. He knew what he was doing. Did he think OP wouldn’t notice what he had done when the kids came to his yard and made a lot of noise? He either thought OP was stupid or thought OP wouldn’t return home on Easter. Either way, it is entirely his fault. The family may glare at OP all they want, but they are the ones who went behind his back.
Most people in the comments were on the OP’s side, which isn’t surprising at all.

The neighbour was being intentionally sneaky.

I am sure OP could have called the cops, and he would’ve had a legal reason for doing so.

I cannot understand the reasoning behind the neighbour’s behaviour.

They didn’t listen to the OP, even after he repeatedly said no.

Good fences indeed do make good neighbours.

It doesn’t matter if someone is a parent or not, as this was wrong on every level.

It should not be the OP’s responsibility to keep the neighbour’s kids safe.

It wasn’t as if OP wasn’t clear about his refusal.

In this situation, the neighbour would have blamed OP.

What are your thoughts on how OP dealt with the situation? Do you think it would have been better if the OP had granted the request to keep the peace? Or do you believe the OP was allowed to say no and his decision should have been respected?
