Entitled Dog Owner Refuses To Pay For The $150 Toy His Dog Destroyed

Imagine a dog snatching something from you and holding onto it for a minute. Would you still want it back? Most people would expect a replacement. It’s only fair for the dog’s owner to replace the item or work something out if they can’t.

In today’s story, a dog owner shared his story about an argument with a child’s parents over a toy. OP’s golden retriever saw a child’s toy dinosaur and grabbed it, startling the child and her parents. The dog played with the toy for a minute before OP retrieved it.

When OP tried to return the toy, the parents refused, worried about germs from the dog’s mouth, and demanded a replacement instead. After learning the toy would cost him $150, he tried to find a compromise with the parents, suggesting he would thoroughly clean the toy. But the parents insisted on a new one.

1. An easy decision. Let’s jump in!

2. One day while on a walk, OP’s dog got excited by a plush toy a kid was holding and quickly ran to snatch it.

3. The kid and the parents got really scared while the dog shook the toy around in its mouth after OP retrieved it.

4. The parents wanted a replacement to which OP agreed. But after realizing it was $150, he quickly made a U-turn from his promise.

5. OP told the parents he would give them the toy back after giving it a good clean but the parents didn’t agree. They considered it ruined and destroyed.

6. OP argued the toy wasn’t torn or broken, it was just dirty and required a wash. The parents, though, said they would only settle for a replacement.

7. They called OP an irresponsible dog owner. The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.

This is one of those times when you make your decision just by reading the cover even though we don’t judge books by the cover here. OP was a clear-cut, straight-up, self-centered AH in this story. Even a toddler could tell OP was wrong in this situation. If his dog was on a leash, then he didn’t have control over that thing, or the dog wasn’t on a leash at all. In both situations, OP becomes a terrible dog owner.

He must pay for that plush because his dog destroyed it. Everyone’s definition of “destroying” something varies. OP is in no situation to say yes or no. He just has to comply.
