We all know just how much cats are against water. It’s like a punishment for them. Some cats hate being wet so much that if someone even mentions ‘water’ they instantly get triggered. I guess it’s just in their nature? I mean, come on cats, you drink water too. Why can’t you just let us clean you with it? How hard is that to understand?! Ugh.
But no matter how hard we try, I guess cats are just generally aquaphobic and there’s nothing we can do about it. However, not all cats are the same. Some of them don’t think H2O is that bad. They atually LOVE it instead.
Don’t believe me? Take a look at these cats below.
While a lot of us might believe that cats hate water, which is kind of true, it’s actually more complex than that. Anybody who has a cat knows just how challenging it is to give them a bath. However, that’s not the case with every cat on the planet. If you’ve heard about the cat breed Turkish Van, you’d know that they are nicknamed “swimming cats” because of their love for water!
Now, how is this possible? Don’t they all generally hate water? Well, it largely depends on their ancestry. Most domestic cats are from the lineage of cats who lived in dry regions. Naturally, swimming wasn’t necessary for them. On the other hand, wild cats who lived in warm climates needed water to cool off every now and then which explains their affinity for water.
For a lot of cats, staying away from water is a survival instinct too. As wet fur makes it hard for them to move fast, it significantly reduces their chances of escaping predators.
While there are a number of reasons why cats hate water, it also depends on the environment cats live in. Cats who have been living with humans for long end up liking water. This explains why the cats in these posts are not afraid to jump in a bathtub.
