Family does not always mean blood relatives.

You can always find your own family because the one you were born with is not always the best fit for you. It is critical to remember that true family is not always defined by blood but rather by the love and support it provides. Friendship bonds can often be stronger than those formed with biological family members. Many people even develop lifelong friendships at work.

After all, many businesses promote a sense of family and unity among their employees, but this rhetoric can be deceptive. Many companies prioritise profits over employee well-being, resulting in a toxic work environment. I’m sure we’ve all been in situations where your superiors basically forced you to attend these brief team-building meetings. As someone who has been forced to attend a few of these, I can tell you that they are usually far worse than you imagine.

Well, the person in the following story obviously did not want to go.

Most people would rather do anything else than go to a party hosted by their boss.

I have many things to do on the weekend.

It shouldn’t be compulsory, and people should have the option to not attend.

A family doesn’t have to be together 24/7.

Haven’t they heard that distance makes the heart grow fonder?

Telling the secretary might be a good idea.

Why am I not surprised?

Being a team player is nice and all, but not when it encroaches on your personal time.

I can imagine how difficult that would be.

I understand that partying with your coworkers can be enjoyable and help you make friends, but it should not be required. I recognise that the world is gradually becoming more work-oriented, but work is not as important as many people believe. There are many more important things in life, such as spending time with our families. Work should not be someone’s first priority unless they choose to make it so. Everyone has bosses like the one in the above story, as evidenced by the number of commenters lamenting about the same thing.

If they pay me to attend the party, I’ll happily be there.

This is only true if the food spread is good and extensive.

Keeping professional and personal lives separate is a good idea.

Family always takes priority over work.

Family is the reason we work in the first place.

I wonder if OP is a manager.

A lot of people would skip as well.

I am definitely using this next time!

I wish I could say this.

We are all waiting.

I would not be surprised if that was the reason.
