Cats are known to be one of the most adorable and mysterious little creatures. As compared to dogs, cats are not just moody, but they tend to pull off the weirdest acts & behaviours which leave us wondering what could be the reason behind it? Because mostly whatever they do, has a meaning or a reason for it.
For instance, do you know why do they choose to knead? Most of the people are not aware of the term “kneading” so we will break it down for you. Kneading is one of the most common behaviours which can be seen in cats in which your feline would push in and out using their front paws, alternating between left and right. However, they don’t do it randomly, it has a reason for it.
Although there are many theories attached to it but the most common explanation is, kneading is a leftover behaviour which they picked during their childhoods. During nursing, a kitten would knead the area around its mother’s teat to promote the flow of milk but that’s not entirely it. If we are talking about an adult cat, the kneading can be associated with your cat feeling happy or content.
But today’s discussion is going to revolve around one of their famous “loafing” behaviour. Those of you who are unaware of that term, it means when your cat sits with all its limbs tucked underneath its body which doesn’t just look adorable but has a reason for it as well.
That little pirate looks too cute for us to handle, doesn’t it?
According to Mikel Delgado, who happens to be a cat researcher at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine explained that cats who sit in such a position are relaxed. Rest assured, they are not preparing to run away or defend themselves from the people that are around them. This is the reason why you would often see them loafing in their safe territories which can be a bed, chair, floor or even a table. They are relaxed, happy and feel safe in their environment.
Another reason could be the preservation of heat. Just like humans know how to keep themselves warm by rubbing off their feet or hands, cats know that in order to stay warm, they should tuck in their toes.
HOW ADORABLE IS THAT!
But there’s one more thing which you must know about their loafing habits as they can indicate a cause of pain in their paws too. So, you must take a look at their feet just in case, as we wouldn’t want our cute little furballs to bear any pain, would we? They are our adorable little babies and we must look after them with the same amount of love and dedication as we would give to our human babies.
But he surely isn’t happy while you are trying to sabotage his “me time”, hooman!
Those pictures of them loafing are truly an addiction, aren’t they? Not to worry, we understand that you’d want to see more of them that is why we would suggest you follow @mykittyloaf on Instagram and you’d be amazed to see the amount of cuteness that page is filled with.
That’s enough information to absorb for today now, isn’t it? Yes, we do understand that when it comes to our little felines and their behaviours, we just don’t want to stop and would want to learn and solve the mysteries of their certain behaviours! But don’t worry, we feel your anxiousness and we will keep on bringing interesting facts about cat behaviours for you to learn. Let us know if your cat loafs or kneads often? Have you been able to capture it from underneath a glass table? Because that sure is one hell of a cute sight to be captured with all their paws tucked underneath their body.
