As a boss, it’s important to lead by example and inspire your team to do their best work. However, not all bosses are created equal, and some can be downright detrimental to their employees’ success. One such example is a boss who ignored an employee’s work for an extended period of time, only to have it backfire and costed her job.
This situation played out in a real-life scenario that was posted on the subreddit “Malicious Compliance” a few years ago. In the post, an employee named Ted had been working at his company for several years when a new boss, Sally, was hired. Instead of working collaboratively with the existing team, Sally chose to ignore her subordinate and told him that he is useless and that she has not opened her emails in a year. The HR team asked Ted to leave and delete his files. This was when the malicious compliance kicked in and Ted left. Scroll down for the complete story.
Sally had no idea that Ted’s departure would cost her her job. She made a mistake by asking him to leave. It is so disrespectful to tell an employee that they are useless. No one should be told this. Ted worked his whole life and was an important asset to the organization but his new boss told him that he was useless. However, Sally failed to maintain her position in the organization for a long time. She ended up searching for new jobs. Scroll down for comments on this post.
