Bride Calls Off Wedding Because Her Mother-in-Law Keeps Finding Excuses To Delay It, Asks If She Went Too Far

fiance-mom-fi

For some brides, planning starts the moment they get engaged. Others prefer a slow, leisurely approach, enjoying a long engagement. Both approaches are perfectly fine, unless a meddling mother-in-law steps in.

The bride in today’s story faced such a situation, trying to set a wedding date four times, only for her mother-in-law to postpone each one, insisting the couple wait for more stable times. Ultimately, the bride grew frustrated. She and her fiancé planned a beautiful, low-cost ceremony in her mother’s backyard, thinking it would avoid interference. Yet, her mother-in-law still objected. When her fiancé agreed that his mother “had a point” about delaying for a few more years, the bride reached her limit. She returned her ring and ended the engagement.

1. Let’s find out!

2. OP had been engaged to her fiance for 3 years.

3. The couple had tried to get married 4 times, but every time, OP’s MIL would find an excuse to postpone the big occasion.

4. One time, the couple decided to have a potluck wedding in her mom’s backyard. It was a small gathering, cheap, and very easy to execute, but MIL still found a way to have it canceled.

5. For the fourth time, the couple once again saved a date, and OP made it very clear to her fiance that he must not let his mother dictate their wedding this time.

6. Closer to the date, MIL asked the couple for the date they had decided for the wedding. Her son told her she would know when they would announce it to everyone.

7. MIL left after the finner with a sad face, and OP’s fiance later went to her house as he had to help her out with some house chores.

8. When the fiance returned, he had already been enchanted by his mom. He pitched another delay of five years in the wedding, saying they should first buy their own house.

This is it. Actually, this is already too far. OP should’ve canceled this relationship when their wedding got postponed the second time. This is absurd. My guy just casually said they should wait another 5 fu*king years to get married. This MIL is so toxic, and this mommy’s boy isn’t so good either.

OP needs to break this engagement, as it will not be worth it to live with a man who will never listen to her. Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

9. After reaching her saturation point, OP took her ring off right in front of him and broke their engagement.

10. She told him she was not interested in him anymore and that even if they bought a new house, her MIL would still find a new way to postpone their wedding.

11. She mentioned how he would always remain his mommy’s boy and would never become hers even after they were a married couple.

12. He kept crying and eventually got up and left. OP stood her ground firmly and didn’t stop him.

13. After her ex-fiance left, she felt bad and guilty for doing what she did. So the matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.
