Mother Fired Babysitter For Taking Fake Sick Leaves, Asks If She’s Wrong

babysitter-fired-fi

A mother recently found herself in a difficult situation with her full-time babysitter, leading her to question whether she acted too harshly. Reddit user Entire_Caterpillar55 hired Marie to care for her children while she and her husband worked. However, soon the couple noticed several issues, like Marie allowing excessive screen time, neglecting to clean up, having friends over without permission, and ignoring the children’s diet guidelines. Despite multiple warnings, Marie’s behavior only temporarily improved.

The final straw came when Marie called in sick, prompting OP to take time off work to care for her kids,, only for her to find out Marie was enjoying time with her friends at a local water park.  After so many warnings, OP decided enough was enough and fired Marie there and then.

1. Let’s find out!

2. OP and her husband are both full-time workers, so they have hired a babysitter, Marie, for their kids.

3. The couple has chosen to keep Marie despite many issues they have faced with her since her hiring.

4. He had not abided by any of the guidelines put before her at the time of hiring. The coupe found out about all this after reviewing the CCTV footage of the house.

5. One day Marie called in sick, so OP had to call out from work so she could look after her kids.

6. The next day, OP decided to take her kids to a local water park, where she found Marie with her friends—a babysitter who was apparently sick.

Marie is odd. She is not babysitting the kids; she is ruining their routines. The guidelines were communicated very clearly at the time of hiring. Understandably, the couple has limited options, as hiring a good babysitter can be tough, but the current situation is doing no good. The couple may have to take quick action here because their kids’ upbringing may be in jeopardy. They can’t keep issuing warning letters to a babysitter they know won’t fix herself. All of this boiling up ad will soon burst.  I am sure OP has something planned for when that happens.

7. Marie said she feared OP wouldn’t give her a day off any other way. OP said she would’ve approved a casual leave had Marie been truthful about it.

8. OP and her husband had given Marie countless warnings for everything she had done. The couple had also been paying her way above average.

9. OP had had enough of Marie’s dramas, so she took the babysitter aside and fired her.

10. Some of OP’s friends called her an AH, saying she should have given Marie another chance.

11. OP also added that Marie was a 26-year-old woman who had qualifications beyond the requirement for a babysitter.

15. Long-running babysitters don’t switch jobs that easily. Perhaps she got fired from her previous job for similar reasons.

While OP did nothing wrong in firing Marie, the circumstances could have been slightly different. There was no point in embarrassing the woman in front of her friends. Even OP’s friends called her an AH for that. OP could’ve called her up for a meeting at the house, which would have allowed her to deal with the firing in a much more professional way.

Moreover, the fact that Marie is so qualified confuses me as to why she ended up breaking all those guidelines. Only she would know.  I really hope you guys enjoyed this one. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
