Sharing an apartment with roommates can be exciting and budget-friendly as you navigate your early adult years. You get to share experiences, but it’s also important to respect each other’s privacy.
Reddit user u/No_Comfortable199 experienced this firsthand at 20 years old. Living with two other girls, OP’s routine got disrupted when one roommate’s boyfriend started staying over a lot OP’s privacy was repeatedly invaded as the roommate’s boyfriend would enter the bathroom without knocking, even when OP was showering, which is not only awkward but breaks basic roommate rules. Things got tense when OP found her things tampered with and missing. When confronted, the roommate and her boyfriend denied any wrongdoing, creating a stalemate.
1. If the roommate’s boyfriend is not paying, then OP is not the AH.
2. One of OP’s two roommates had a boyfriend.
3. The three of them share one bathroom which hadn’t been an issue until the one roommate’s boyfriend would knock on the door heavily to use it while OP would be in it.
4. This has also happened when OP would be showering.
5. Imagine having to reserve yourself in your own house because you know your roommate’s boyfriend has a bad eye.
6. The other roommate feels as uncomfortable as OP about this whole situation.
7. Recently, OP noticed her clothes drawer had been meddled with.
8. OP couldn’t find her tights and her roommate said one of her undergarments was missing as well.
9. All three roommates got together in the main hall to have a discussion over this; to get to the end of the missing garments case.
10. It seems like the roommate knew it was her boyfriend who had done this.
My roommate is being ridiculous here. Her boyfriend needs to be reported. He needs to pay if he wants to stay for that long. Report the matter to RA and have him kicked out right away. This is a clear invasion of privacy.
