In today’s world, many people find themselves stuck in low-paying jobs without even realizing it. However, it’s becoming easier to see which companies treat their employees well and which ones just use them for profit. It is wrong to exploit workers without fair pay. Employees aren’t machines; they need fair compensation to live well.

While this might have been common in the past, times are changing. People are now more aware of their worth and the value they bring to their workplaces. This is why a Redditor’s story about leaving a six-year job after being denied a raise resonated with many. OP was their absolute best and they only realized it after it was too late.

1. Such titles don’t shock me anymore; this is such a common practice now.

2. OP is one of those people who build themselves from scratch and depend on no one.

3. OP soon got promoted to the position of a foreman, and started getting big projections and appreciation from both the management and the customers.

4. Within three years, OP was all over the place, looking after everything and perfecting every single task he got handed. He became the perfect construction worker.

5. OP kept bringing in contracts while the management would continue to appreciate him to keep his motivation up.

6. However, after years of hard work, when OP asked for a raise, the owners refused, saying the experience he was gaining was of much more value. As soon as he got the rejection, OP put his resume in public.

7. In no time, OP ended up getting a drastically better offer with countless benefits and nothing that would make him refuse the position.

8. OP presented the offer to his bosses, and they were left speechless. They knew they were doomed.

It was at this moment, that they knew they fu*ked up! What else were they thinking? OP would come crying to the office and agree to continue being their slave? Nope! OP got to realize they are paying him grains compared to what he is truly worth.

12. OP feared what the future held for him, but his fiancé encouraged him and gave in the confidence for him to switch.

13. OP went to his farewell party and had a really good time there.

14. The discussion on OP’s resignation made him regret his decision in the moment when he heard the company go into panic mode when he left.

15. Although OP felt bad, he was happy with where his life was going. OP and his FIL also came to good terms.
