Guy Illustrates How His Adopted Cat Helps Him Fight Depression

Depression should never be taken lightly.

People around us are depressed more than we know. Someone could be smiling and laughing with you the whole day and still be suffering from depression. We believe only the people who have experienced trauma in the past might feel depressed, but that’s not true. Sometimes, it just hits us out of nowhere. We think we’re fine, but we are not and it just keeps eating us up inside slowly.

If left unchecked and untreated, it gets worse. We stop participating in every day activities. We slowly stop paying attention to ouselves. We lose track of time, forget to eat, forget to take a bath and a whole lot more. In times like these, support from someone close can really help us get back on track.

But sometimes we live alone, and don’t have anybody to take care of us. That’s when help comes to us in the form of adorable pets. That’s right, pets can help A LOT with mental health problems.

A guy who was dealing with depression and anxiety used his illustrations to describe how his adopted cat helped him through his problems. Check out the illustrations below and see how pets can help us in amazing ways.

The illustrator’s name is Yash Pandit and this is his story:

Bagheera a typical cat.

He’s mischieveous.

He’s playful and loving.

Living with Bagheera has shown Yash a purpose.

Bagheera reminds him to take care of himself.

Bagheera impacts his life in subtle ways.

He has made Yash more responsible.

He reminds him of things he often forgets.

He’s also a good listener.

He’s more than just a cat, he’s a blessing.

Here’s Yash with his cat Bagheera.

Yash was battling with depression and anxiety when he got diagnosed with type 1 rapid cycling bipolar disorder. “I have a therapist and a psychiatrist, and I have a strict regime of therapy and medications that I follow religiously to keep my disorder under my control.”

However, having Bagheera in his life helped him tackle these problems a lot.

According to Yash, Bagheera is one strange cat. “He will convince you that he’s sweet and calm, and then pounce on you when you look away. He’s the most friendly cat I’ve ever seen, has no problem in loving and greeting anyone new. He’s smart enough to pretend that he’s fallen asleep but also thinks his shadow is another cat and starts pouncing on it. He loves to watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air with me, and won’t fall asleep until I put on Frank Ocean songs, in which case he will hug my phone and go to sleep. I love him with all my life.”

After seeing the beautiful illustrations, this is what people had to say.

Cats help us in ways we can’t imagine.

Their innocence and silly nature takes all the pain away.

Honestly, we can’t thank God enough for these adorable creatures!
