Greedy Landlord Tried To Exploit Tenant For Free Labor, Ends Up Paying More

Some landlords want the rent on time but would not make the effort to resolve the tenant’s issues.

When you are renting a house, it is the landlord’s responsibility to make sure everything is working fine in the house. If anything is out of order, the landlord has to get it repaired for the tenants. An engineer rented a house out past the suburbs of the city. The house was old and the appliances do not work well but since the rent was not that high, he rented it. OP’s landlord lives out of state so he had no one to talk to about the house.

After 4 months of moving in, OP started having plumbing issues and some appliances stopped working. OP sent emails and called his landlord but got no reply. After several calls and emails, the landlord sent a handyman. OP sent the landlord the total cost for repairs which he refused to pay. The landlord told OP to repair I by himself since he is an engineer. OP asked the landlord if he is ready to pay him for his time and the repairs. The landlord agreed. OP filed for an LLC, then watched YouTube tutorials and got everything he needed for the repairs. OP usually charges $50 per hour at his job. OP made the receipt and sent it to his landlord. We are sure the landlord has never messed up with him ever again. From now on, he will make sure everything is working properly in the house. The landlord tried exploiting the tenant but ended up exploiting himself. It was smart of OP to file an LLC first so that the landlord could not create any mess later on.
