Employee Orders

Most people prefer to work from home.

Working from home has become a popular option for many people as technology has advanced and remote work opportunities have become more common. Working from home provides numerous benefits, including the ability to set their own schedules, avoid long commutes, and create a comfortable work environment, which appeals to a diverse range of people. Despite some drawbacks, such as potential distractions and feelings of isolation, remote work’s flexibility and convenience continue to attract an increasing number of employees.

Even though COVID and the ensuing quarantine have ended, there is no doubt that it caused many businesses and employers to reconsider whether calling employees to work was a good idea. I understand that some professions require it, but for others, it is possible to have a schedule in which you work from home some days and come into the office on others. That is also the type of schedule that the original protagonist of this story has. And it was the unwillingness to change that caused the subsequent drama.

You won’t find good bosses easily.

Making sure that your boss is always happy with you is not an easy task.

OP has worked for this company for a few years now, and his schedule sometimes requires him to work from home.

OP enjoyed not having to commute to work every day, and most of his managers are quite happy with him except his administrator.

The administrator, Linda, is not happy with OP at all and wants him to stop working from home.

As you can imagine, OP wasn’t okay with this and told her that he already had permission to WFH from the other managers.

Linda apparently wanted him to work from the office for a few weeks, but that was the only time OP could have a vacation, so he declined.

Linda tried to voke her authority, but the fact is that she isn’t the OP’s direct supervisor, so she has no power over him.

OP was clear in his refusal, and as long as his managers were happy with him, he didn’t have to help her.

Linda is apparently a middlewoman, and there is not much she can do without the approval of the other managers.

This means that Linda is unable to complain about OP since his direct managers are happy with his work ethic.

The reason it is difficult for OP to take time off is because his managers are quite technologically illiterate.

OP also knows that he is being taken advantage of, but he is being paid handsomely for his efforts, so he is okay with it.

OP also provided more information about what Linda does and how he isn’t a contract worker.

If Linda had the power to enforce her authority, OP is pretty sure he would have already been fired.

There is also a little summary for people who haven’t read the full story, but I would recommend reading it fully.

As OP mentioned in the story above, the managers are undoubtedly taking advantage of him. However, he is aware of this and has priced himself accordingly, so as long as he is satisfied with his work, that is all that matters. He has found a way to balance his work and personal life by negotiating a schedule that suits him. Individuals must advocate for themselves in the workplace in order to achieve a healthy work-life balance. I feel bad for the temporary manager, but it is not the OP’s responsibility to help her in any way. He is carrying out his duties and responsibilities.

It is not OP’s responsibility to do Linda’s job for her.

OP might get into trouble later on if he doesn’t figure things out.

I am sure the OP knows this already, but it is clear that he doesn’t mind it.

The department that approves vacations should be handling this.

Honestly, we never know what might happen in the future.

What are your thoughts on how the OP is handling the situation? Do you think the OP should have listened to his temporary manager? Or do you think she expects too much of him?
