Dogs At Animal Shelters Picked Their Own Gifts For Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner. Which actually means happiness is around the corner. This time, this year, I think we can all admit that we need christmas badly. After such a hard year, this is something that is extremely necessary. Almost half the world is looking forward to celebrating Christmas. That also includes our little fur babies!

This year, Dogs Trust Ireland Rehoming Center, which is in Dublin, decided to do something special for homeless dogs. They gathered up some toys through donations, even the staff donated some for these wonderful doggos. The best part of all? They let the cute little beans pick their toys themselves. If that isn’t wholesome, we don’t know what is! In a way, they were picking their own Christmas gifts.

This organization, Dogs Trust Ireland is the largest welfare charity for dogs in Ireland. They started in 2005 and their main aim was on rescuing, rehoming, and rehabilitating dogs of all kinds. According to their Facebook, they are “working towards the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction.” Their promise is to “never destroy a healthy dog.”

CAN I BE ON THE CAMERA TOO?

As if such cuteness wasn’t enough for us, Dog Trust Ireland recorded reactions of these excited doggos as they finally figured out what is happening.

“We recorded 35 dogs picking a toy and then spent (many) hours editing it to show the best reactions. One or two just wanted pets and snuggles more than a toy. The dogs were let in one by one, so we didn’t have to worry about any of them wanting the same toy”

Clearly it’s very difficult to decide which one is the best

Dog Trust Ireland’s staff arranged the toys on the floor and let the dogs in one by one. The doggos weren’t just happy, but also excited to choose their Christmas gifts. They had so many options and where as some dogs had no trouble in choosing what they really wanted, others took their sweet time.

“In 2017, we decided to do Secret Santa Paws for the dogs, where staff members bought a long-term dog a present specifically for them, and we recorded it and got a great reaction. In 2018, we wanted to do something different, so again the staff donated toys, but we thought the dogs might like to pick their own. So we lined them up, and it was the best day… the dogs were SO happy and watching them was just amazing. So we did it again this year, and combined supporter donations from under our tree in the reception with staff toy donations”

Here is what they posted on their Facebook;

“As you will see, deciding on which toy was a big decision for some dogs and some delighted in the squeakiest toy they could find”

“We put a pause on adoptions over Christmas every year, so the dogs in the video are still with us, but we hope to find them their Forever Homes in the new year! We have had other shelters lining up toys and letting the dogs pick them. and they have tagged us in their posts, which is amazing! Sniffing the toys and picking one out requires concentration for the dogs, and really brings out their different personalities. It’s just fantastic for us to see them being so happy over something so simple, and we really, really hope this will help them all get adopted in 2020!”
