Everyone experiences difficult times in life.

No one’s mental health is always perfect, and it’s natural to feel disheartened or depressed at times. Ignoring these feelings or pretending that everything is fine won’t make them disappear. It’s essential to understand that it’s okay to feel bad sometimes, and there’s nothing wrong with accepting that you too can have bad days. However, it’s crucial to remember that having a bad day doesn’t justify treating others poorly. Even if things aren’t going your way, there are better ways to handle your frustration than taking it out on others. In fact, it’s often better to remove yourself from a situation altogether than to make things worse by staying.

Unfortunately, the person in this story didn’t do that. He was feeling quite down and depressed, and to make matters worse, it was his birthday, and nothing seemed to be going his way. Despite this, he still had to go to work since he’d forgotten to take the day off. Typically, companies celebrate an employee’s birthday with a cake and a card, but he wasn’t in the mood for any of it. Instead of talking to his colleagues and manager about how he was feeling, he chose to ignore everything.

The story is a bit more complex than it seems at a first glance.

Firstly, we get into the meat of why he has been feeling down.

It is not surprising that he wasn’t in the festive mood on his birthday.

Everyone around him just kept piling on the troubles.

So he just wanted to be left alone.

But that wasn’t in the cards for him.

However, he did realize that he may have been too hasty with how he reacted.

We get a little bit more information and OP says that he wasn’t outright rude.

He also explained some common questions that people had.

Understandably, the guy in question may be going through a tough time. When feeling down, it’s easy to take our frustrations out on others, even when they don’t deserve it. In this case, the OP didn’t take their anger out on anyone but instead chose to ignore the situation entirely. While ignoring the problem may seem like an easy way out, it’s not always the best solution. A better approach would have been to communicate with the necessary parties and request a day off or an early leave.

By doing so, the issue could have been resolved in a more effective and efficient manner. It’s important to remember that ignoring a problem won’t make it go away, and it’s always better to confront it head-on. Although the OP isn’t obligated to attend the birthday party, it would have been a more respectful and professional approach to discuss the matter with their boss instead of simply ignoring it.

However, people weren’t giving him any leeway.

However, a lot of them could understand what he was feeling as well.

To be fair, this person is right about some co-workers genuinely being caring.

He could have sucked it up or he could have communicated that he wasn’t feeling well.

It wouldn’t have been hard to tell them outright.

I am also curious if this kind of celebration happens in most companies.

And apparently, this is quite common.
