We must never lie about the skills we have in our arsenal, especially in the workplace. You never know when they might ask you to showcase that very skill, you will be left with nothing but a bowl full on embarrassment because you never knew sh*t about it.
That is exactly what happened in the story we have got for you guys today. Reddit user throw_friescountry who speaks Dutch and French fluently, was excited when Cathy, a new joiner, claimed to be fluent in these languages. However, when OP spoke Dutch, Cathy didn’t understand a word, revealing her lies before everyone in the office.
Who was she even kidding? Catchy tried being fancy by mentioning she knew all those languages thinking “Who would ever speak these languages?”, right? Well, this conversation with OP was a major newsflash for her. OP didn’t even know she was lying, she just got excited that there was finally someone in the office she could communicate with in other languages. Turns out, she will have to do more waiting.
17. A few months later OP shared an important update.
18. OP chose not to go to HR but she did document everything that happened in the breakroom.
19. OP thought things would settle down by themselves but Catchy kept being cold to OP.
20. Cathy continued with her lying habit by telling everyone that OP had said some mean things to her in Dutch.
21. As the word spread, HR took notice and called in OP. Cathy’s views had already been recorded and registered.
22. OP told the full story and everything that happened in the break room and even got the two colleagues, who were there, to testify.
23. The Company finally fired her after another episode of lies where she said she did know all those languages but wasn’t able to prove it again.
24. Cathy finally admitted she didn’t know any of those three languages.
25. People who believed in Cathy also ended up apologizing to OP after she got fired.
