One of the cutest animals on Earth are cats. They aren’t even trying to be cute but they always catch our attention. These felines are related to the lion and tiger family. So because of instinct, they try to act all tough, when in fact, they are just little furry balls of cuddles. If you’ve ever pissed off a cat or accidentally stepped on its tail, you were probably hissed by it. The hissing is meant to be frightening but it’s the most lovable thing to us humans. They try their best to be intimidating but fail hilariously.
When they hiss, they show off their “teefies” to scare away threats. What are “teefies?” Teefies are a cat’s miniature teeth. They don’t show off their teefies much, but when they do, (even if it’s to attack us) we just end up saying “Aww!” There is a “Teefies” subreddit that is filled with our furry feline friends showing off their magnificent teeth. It is one of the most precious things on the Internet and you’re about to see why.

Pet advocate Dr. Ernie Ward spoke to BoredPanda about cat teeth and techniques that could help with your cat’s dental hygiene. “About 80 percent of adult cats have serious problems with their teeth, especially a condition called periodontal disease. Periodontal disease looks like stained or ‘dirty teeth,’ but underneath that discoloration lies gum infection. This infection can spread harmful bacteria throughout the body, damaging heart valves, kidneys, liver, and causing intense pain. In fact, many cases of ‘finicky eating’ is a cat’s way of telling their pet parents it hurts to eat,” said Dr. Ward.

If you don’t brush your cat’s teeth, you need to start ASAP. It is going to cause a lot of problems in the future. “Cats need their 30 adult teeth brushed and cleaned regularly. If you don’t feel comfortable brushing your cat’s teeth with their super-cool tiny kitty toothbrushes, you’ll need to have your cat’s teeth cleaned once a year by your vet,” Dr. Ward told BoredPanda.
If you don’t take care of their dental hygiene, it is most probable that they would have to extract the problem causing tooth. “If your cat’s tooth becomes broken, infected, or is causing severe pain, tooth extraction may be required. The procedure is identical to a human having a ‘tooth pulled.’ Your kitty will be sedated, the gums numbed, and the tooth extracted. Often a special suture will be used to sew up the hole and antibiotics and pain medication prescribed. Most cats feel much better after a damaged tooth is removed and can eat and drink within hours,”

Why do they do this? My most recent rescue Jasper LeBrawn destroys EVERY box that comes into the house. There’s just piles of cardboard bits everywhere. He even snuck into the garage one time and chewed the bottom box in a stack and everything fell, thank God he didn’t get hurt but why is he tormenting all these boxes!!! –Michelle C
