Well, usually that is what happens, but sometimes they love to hate each other. Making it so your cat and dog get along is always hard. After all, dogs and cats are both hunters, even if they have spent their lives as pets. And one or the other would usually hunt the smaller prey. That is why it is always recommended to supervise your cat and dog’s interactions in the early months.
But sometimes, even after putting in a lot of effort, they will not get along. After all, it is not as if all siblings get along, even if they are related by blood. So why is it compulsory for two different species to do so? As long as they don’t hurt each other, it is perfectly fine for them to stay as far away as they can from each other. And you can see that animosity between a cat and a dog in the following pictures.
I know many people who want to keep a dog and a cat. And it is usually not such a bad idea. However, for the best possible outcome, adopting them simultaneously, so they grow up together is the way to go. This way, they will learn to respect each other’s space and not try to hurt one another. Or, you can also take your existing pet with you when you go to adopt a cat or a dog so you can see who they get along with best. It is all trial and error at the end of the day.
