What do you prefer? Cuddly, relaxed and moody cats, or playful, smart and silly dogs? There are dog people and there are cat people in the world too. So, this debate is somewhat endless. However, I have the perfect answer to this question; Why not both? I know it is a lot of responsibility to keep a pet, and keeping two from different species can be even tougher. But it is definitely worth it. No, it won’t be as chaotic as Tom and Jerry (though I can’t make any promises), but to that, I say “The more, the merrier!”
A Japanese couple had been raising three Shiba Inus together for years. However, the wife always wished for a cat. “The reason why I wanted to expand our family with a cat rather than a dog was quite simple: I’ve had a cat in the past,” the woman told Bored Panda. “But when I told my husband that I wanted a kitty, I learned he wasn’t very fond of cats. I kept at it, but he refused every time. After some time, however, I was able to find a cat we both liked.”
They took some time deciding which cat to get, and they came up with the perfect answer. “I also looked for a breed that was really compatible with dogs. Eventually, we settled on the American Shorthair.” They brought their new baby, Kiki, from a breeder in Kanagawa and Kiki instantly got along with her doggo siblings. She even acts like a dog now. The boys are actually very protective about Kiki. “I took Kiki and our dogs to a Shiba Inu party,” told Kiki’s mom. “Kiki was getting along with all the dogs just fine, but one of them suddenly started barking at him. Immediately, one of our Shibas, Saki, barked back, protecting Kiki. At that point, I understood they’ve become true companions.”
Kiki and the boys do all sorts of stuff together. They love new adventures and like to explore around in a group. “The Shibas are usually quiet at home, so Kiki seems to be able to rest whenever he wants with a peaceful mind,” said their mom. “Sometimes Kiki does something athletic before going to bed at night and joins us in the bedroom to get some sleep.”
“I often hear that it’s the dogs who get used to their owner’s sleeping schedule, and cats are the jerks who get up early and wake you up at 4 AM or something like that, but Kiki also sleeps together with the rest of us until morning.” I guess company really does matter.
