All pet owners know what a big responsibility it is to take proper care of your pet. You want to make sure their tummies are filled and never lacking nutrition. You worry about their hygiene and their grooming. Grooming is an essential part of pet care and an un-groomed pet reflects the bad health of the animal. Making regular visits to the vet to ensure your pet is healthy and well is also very important. All these things on the checklist, and much more, requires time and energy. These things can’t be done recklessly because you have taken the responsibility for a living creature, and that too is an adorable one. Now imagine having 1,300 dogs, 100 cats, and 4 horses! Wow. That has be to a record.

While this must be just an imagination for you, it is a reality for Wen Junhong. Wen Junhong seems to be filled with all the humanity that can exist in the world. And once you read further about her in the article, you’ll agree! She felt immensely for the animals that had been neglected and devoid of love and care. She could not bear seeing them without proper care. She felt this so great, that she decided to take responsibility for these neglected animals and provide them with shelter, and all the care and love that they deserved. All these animals now hold a special place in her life. Keep scrolling to read more into Wen’s home of animals!

With all the great work she is doing, we should know a few important details about Ms. Wen Junhong. Ms. Wen Junhong is 68 years old and lives in a 2-story house that she owns. And we were not exaggerating. Each room in her house is literally filled with cages! She recalls that after rescuing a helpless dog 20 years ago, she has not been able to put an end to this. She kept rescuing animals after that and now, she has 1,300 dogs, 100 cats, 4 horses, and many rabbits and birds too!

With all these responsibilities, she has long and hectic days. She regularly wakes up at 4 AM to get started with all the work. Imagine the amount of dedication and commitment one must hold to wake up this early to take care of a house full of animals.

The cages and litter trays won’t clean themselves, so Wen cleans all the cages that were filled with waste from the night before. She keeps the task of cooking meals in the morning so she can go by the day without worrying about being out of food. Given the number of animals she has at home, she cooks about 500 kg of food. It includes meat, rice, and different vegetables to cover all the animals. She has huge cooking utensils for this task because it’s not a small amount of food.

Of course, all of this does not come easy financially. Having these many animals puts a lot of stress on the expenses. Ms. Wen Junhong needed to take a loan to pay the overwhelming expenses. To be able to do that, she had to sell her apartment, and just for the record, she used to be an environmental technician. I am gaining more respect every time I learn more about her commitment towards all the rescued animals.

Anyone with pets would know this is in no way easy even in the slightest. The fact that she had to sell her apartment to meet her ends speaks a lot about how serious this responsibility is. She also continues to utilize her savings and pensions to provide for her animals. No doubt, she is no less than a superwoman!

However, she still wants these babies to find their homes. She hopes that one day people will be more welcoming to the idea of adopting pets and reach out to her.

The number of pets at her house is increasing as time passes. New babies are born to the mothers in those cages and Wen brings in more dogs that get abandoned by people. Unfortunately, Ms. Wen also has limited space available and there’s a limit to the number of animals that can fit into the house. The place got so crowded once, the neighbors started complaining. She had to relocate herself and all the animals 6 times. That must be a lot of work. Thankfully, she is not completely alone in this thing. 6 staff members are hired by Ms. Wen to assist her in daily workings.

As time passes by, people in China are more getting more attuned to the idea of adopting pets. Wen is in hopes for these beautiful animals to find a caring and loving home, where they do not have to go through the struggles they faced before.

Well, reading Wen’s story doesn’t just teach us humanity on a whole new level but also makes us realize that with sheer dedication, one can pull off through anything and everything. Don’t you think Wen would get frustrated given her circumstances? Of course, she would but it’s truly amazing what she is doing for the voiceless animals. Anyways, last but not the least, we would like to know whether you have ever been into a situation in which you ended up adopting more than one animal?
