Vegan Asks Reddit If She Is Wrong For Lying About Allergies At A Restaurant, Gets Shamed

Being a vegan isn’t easy.

I know vegans get a lot of hate on the Internet but I never understood why that is. I know that some vegans can get quite extreme in how they broach this subject but those few don’t speak for the whole vegan community. However, I am always surprised by how repulsed some meat eaters get when they have anything veggies or beans based in front of them. They act as if it is disgusting without some sort of meat in there.

There is also the age-old debate about how vegans don’t get enough protein because they don’t eat meat or animal-based products but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Just because someone is vegan doesn’t mean they only eat salads and bland food. When I was vegetarian, I made a lot of vegan dishes as well and they were absolutely delicious but I suppose some people don’t have an open mind.

And this can apply to industry professionals as well. Even to this day, a lot of people don’t understand what veganism is and it baffles their minds. Well, this is one such story and that led this person to lie about it just so they could get a vegan meal.

I can relate with this person as it was quite hard for me in my country as well.

Although, it is a steakhouse so they don’t really have a lot of choices when it comes to anything other than cuts of meat.

And since this person is vegan, they can’t have dairy either so they were in a bit of a pickle.

And it isn’t as if they haven’t gone to this restaurant before and it was always a bad experience.

So this time, they decided to lie about an allergy to get what they want.

While they got the vegan food, they also got charged way more than anticipated.

This honestly isn’t normal at all as restaurants don’t charge you more for something so basic.

But it is a complicated matter as I don’t know what they could have done.

I have to say that I feel for this person. It is obvious that they have gone to this restaurant before and tried their best to explain their eating choices. However, no one really understood it and they did whatever they wanted to do. But that doesn’t mean that OP gets a free pass for lying about an allergy. This only causes more people not to trust people who actually have serious allergies. But I also have to mention that the restaurant isn’t doing itself any favors either so everyone is in the wrong here.

However, people in the comments with actual allergies were not appreciative of the lie.

So OP got called out for lying no matter the reason.

People even recommended bringing their own food to such a restaurant.

This comment does put everything in perspective.

Most restaurants don’t allow that but sometimes you have to make exceptions.

I hope you aren’t allergic to cat tax!

What is the black kitty doing in the back? It was as if she was caught red-handed and is trying to hide. I hope they aren’t planning something evil.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the restaurant is overdramatizing everything and just wanted to get some extra cash? Or are you against this person because they lied?
