There’s a running theme on the internet that people don’t often know a lot of things that are just simply taken for granted. For one reason or another, we just assume that they’re not what they actually are. For example, cashews are a nut, and like most nuts, we assume that they’re inside a fruit of some kind, and serve as a seed. Well, sort of. As cashews grow out of a fruit instead of inside of it.
And that’s not all. The list expands further and there are so many things that you may or may not know that you’ve taken for granted. Another example would be field mice. While yes, you’d assume that there are mice out in the wilderness, but did you know that these tiny creatures love to eat pollen? And you know the best way to eat pollen? It’s to climb into a flower and have a food coma.
You were today years old.
The weird things about mice and their genus families is that they can be surprisingly vicious. A wild hamster mother can oftentimes cannibalise her own newborns if they don’t have access to enough food, and that really puts a damper on our love for the small, cute and cuddly little gerbils. The one thing to remember though is that hamsters only do it when they’re on a corn-only diet, so the lack of variety makes them go cannibalistic.
I never knew this. This is a “I was today years old” meme for me too. But, to be fair, as most of us haven’t lived on a farm, and don’t know what a plant looks like before it’s grown. Heck, for me, it was a shock to find out that fruits, every single fruit, has a flower and that’s what the technically definition of a fruit entails. That means there is such a thing as a tomato flower. And a watermelon flower. It’s such a difficult thing to wrap your head around.
And here I thought buttload just meant a load that was the size of your butt. In hindsight, this doesn’t make much sense at all, because the term does seem a little archaic, since in Victorian eras, even the word “pants” was a swear word.
What about you? Do these things ring true for you or did you know these things before too? Tell us about it!
