They exist to provide a safe haven for employees and to provide checks and balances to ensure that a company does not ab*se its position. At the very least, that is what it is supposed to be. In reality, they are only there to ensure that the company is not sued, and they don’t care about the employee’s well-being as long as it doesn’t affect the bottom line or make them look bad in public. While it is important for employees to feel comfortable enough to report any inappropriate behaviour to HR, some people go too far.
In this story, for example, we have a woman who is basically a tattle-tale and reports everything to HR. She is constantly on the lookout for new information, and whenever a coworker says something that may not be ‘politically correct,’ she is right there to report it. As you might expect, this has made the workplace quite hostile, as now everyone is afraid to say anything that might cause her to report them. When it comes to coworkers, we all know how easy it is to form friendships. However, how can you talk about anything when more than half of the topics are off the table?

I could understand her reasoning if an employee was being bullied or if someone was saying derogatory things about her, but that does not appear to be the case. My friends and I have said much worse things about race, religion, and other contentious issues than this. After all, injecting a little humour into serious conversations can sometimes be a good way to lighten everyone’s mood. And the snitch is the only one I see being rac*st here. According to what I’ve read, the other people haven’t said anything that could be interpreted that way.
