People often think that getting an emotional support animal (ESA) will magically solve all their problems, but that’s not how it works. An ESA is a living being that requires care and attention, not a device you can turn on and off. Taking care of an ESA can give you a sense of purpose and help you connect with others. However, it’s a mutual relationship, and both you and the animal benefit. Unfortunately, some people forget this and leave the responsibility to their families, as seen in our story.
In today’s story, a mother with three kids,, working from home in a small apartment, faced a challenge related to an ESA. Her husband, who suffered from severe depression, insisted on getting a herding dog as an ESA, despite her concerns about the work involved. Despite her saying no, he ended up getting an untrained, high maintainance puppy. After the husband returned to work, the puppy ended up becoming OP’s responsibility who didn’t want a dog, in their house, in the first place.
With 2 warnings already received for not working properly, OP asked her husband to do something about the dog.

So the dog is now OP’s. A dog she never asked for. It is crazy that the husband chose an untrained puppy as his emotional support dog. That too was a puppy, which was high maintenance. If you think about it, he got himself a puppy to support him, but the puppy requires support too. Untrained dogs are a mess because they create a huge mess, and now this puppy is OP’s to look after.
OP cannot sit there and do nothing about this. The dog will either have to be trained or rehomed. Something needs to be done here. Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

OP was NTA! You cannot throw a responsibility at someone and expect them to honor it quietly. It is like asking a medical surgeon to create the next iPhone’s UI. There is no match here. OP ended up with a puppy she never wanted. The conditions were very clear. If it really is an emotional support puppy, then the husband should take it with him to the office. The puppy is at home all day, making life a big mess for OP as she tries to work from home.
OP needs to do some thinking. Either this emotional support dog gets rehomed, or she leaves her husband. I really hope you guys enjoyed this one. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
