Manager Wants Employees To Open Restaurant When There Is Snow Emergency Called In By The State

Services is the sector of the economy that has the biggest share in terms of running businesses in the economy as compared to industry and agriculture. The services industry operates on very little margins, most of them break even for so many years until they finally start making money. The ambition of these business owners has to be really high in order for them to flourish in this sector. In recent times, thanks haven’t been looking too good for the world economy in general, but also for the services sector in specific. This is a sector that cannot operate if it is not covering its expenses or generating money. Making a loss just won’t let you hold on to the business for too long and it would have to be eventually shut down.

This is one of the reasons why service business leadership or ownership always wants to keep their business operations and the doors open for work…as much as they can. But you will agree with me that it has to be done within a limit. As a manager, you must not order your employees to “open the doors” when there is a level 2 snow emergency. Unfortunately for this restaurant and its manager, a level 2 snow emergency still means they are all clear to open.

The manager one day posted in the worker’s group that the restaurant must be prepped and opened for lunch and that they will be operating at limited capacity because of the delayed supply of goods. The supply was delayed due to the level 2 snowstorm so how does this manager expect their employees to reach the restaurant in time and open it without risking their lives? This is the exact question one of the employees raised in the group chat as the orders made zero sense to them.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. The workers got asked by their manager to open the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is based in central Ohio and on this particular day, there was a level 2 snow emergency in the region.

2. One employee did mention the snow emergency, basically trying to say that no employee wants to risk it that much to open a restaurant, but the manager responded by saying the owners have already considered this and it isn’t a big deal…I mean…what?

3. One Redditor decided to enlighten all the other people about the different levels of snow emergencies.

By reading about the level 2 snow emergency, it is very clear to me that it is heavily advised not to report to work. I don’t think people should risk it even if it is absolutely necessary, work can always wait you cannot pause life though. If life goes, it goes. And this manager wants his people to risk their lives, and drive in a snowstorm to open a restaurant they don’t even own. I feel like the very ambitious Mr. Manager, Mr. Matt, and Mr. Chris should leave the way, and be great examples so the employees can follow.

The internet found this uncaring behavior really bad and they had a lot to say:

4. How will they get an Uber or Lyft when there aren’t any on the road?

5. The preferences of people vary from person to person but that does not mean you risk the lives of your employees to make some money.

6. What is the point of opening when there probably won’t be any customer traffic because of the snowstorm?

7. The manager at Panera probably said “Oh sh*t, I didn’t think of that.”

8. Sign of a terrible owner.
