This Person Had Been Living With The Wrong Dog For Over Four Months Thanks To The Groomer’s Mistake

Groomer returned the wrong dog.

Time and time again how amazingly groomers transform our pets. After a much-needed haircut and grooming, they literally look unrecognizable and owners actually have trouble confirming whether it is their pet that they are about to take home or not. Well, something along these lines happened in the story we have got for you guys today.

You might feel some concerns if, say, your dog suddenly starts acting weird. You may feel it is a mood swing but when that behavioral change persists, you get a bit worried as to why has your dog started acting like this? Well, this happened to a Reddit user who had no idea what happened to their dog all of a sudden. Things came to a point that the dog would refuse to go near those she previously couldn’t live without. Well, turns out it was not their dog. They had been living with the wrong dog for over 4 months.

OP original had a gorgeous shepherd/newf mutt mix, Emma, who they took to a groomer for a routine haircut. Once the procedure was done and it was time to collect Emma, some misunderstandings led to OP taking home the wrong dog. According to them, “Physically, she was identical but mentally she was not there.” It was after 4 whole months of treating that stranger dog with love and care as OP would do with Emma, that their mother received a call from the groomer who let the family know what had actually happened.

Scroll down below to read what happened!

1. A mix-up between two very identical dogs led to this person living with the wrong dog for over 4 months.

2. A behavioral change in Emma was observed right from the dot as she was brought home from the groomer.

3. She wouldn’t get along with anyone in the house. A sudden and concerning change.

4. She only bonded with OP and the rest of her routine completely changed, and so did the bonds with other members of the family.

5. Weird to see how Emma, who loved OP’s father so much, so quickly decided to distance herself from him. There is some problem.

6. And how did the dog react to this?

7. Okay so now the dog is acting the way she used to. Is Emma’s soul back in? What is it?

8. That’s because it isn’t your Emma. Who knows where she is.

9. Oh dear, is it about Emma?

10. It seems like once they dog the wrong dog, that dog’s family came and took Emma home. The groomer calls OP’s mother for a meeting.

11. There you have it. The dog they had been living with for 4 months wasn’t Emma, it was Bear. A xerox copy of Emma.

12. Glad the problem got resolved and both families got their dogs back.

You know such events can actually be very traumatizing. Emma had been living with people she had no clue about, there is a chance she would’ve thought her family abandoned her and that, in turn, would’ve shattered her trust. For her owner, things would’ve been so tough because they had no idea where their dog had been for 4 whole months. What had she been doing, what had she been eating, and so on. So yeah, I am so glad they managed to find their dog and she was alright. It will take a bit of time for Emma to gel back in after this bizarre situation, but I am sure the family will bond once again.

Let’s see what happened next.

13. It’s a cute gesture by the company but such problems shouldn’t be forgiven so easily. I don’t think OP is ever taking Emma to that groomer again.

Here’s what some of the community members had to say about this event:

14. A person suggested OP to get Emma microchipped in order to locate her if she ever goes missing like this again, or is mixed up with another dog.

15. Poor Emma lost a lot of weight during those 4 months, stress really did get her or maybe those elderly people didn’t treat her right.

16. Good god cannot imagine how Emma survived those 4 months with those people.

17. Bear didn’t want to go back to his original owners during the exchange, and Emma instantly ran toward her owners. This is concerning, I think OP should do something about it and get a hold of Bear. After all, the two bonded so well in those 4 months.

18. Safe to say, the story shocked everyone who read it.
