You know how we all say eyes are the window to the soul? Well, it can be taken even further when you talk about creations whether it be a drawing, a song or even a written poem. Each one of these gives us a view of the person soul who created it. And let me just say this particular artist has a lot to say. I am ofcourse talking about Marcelo Ventura from Brazil. He has taken it upon himself to reflect real-life issues in his art through the use of pop culture icons and cartoons that we have come to adore.
His art pieces not only touch a deep nerve in many people but they are also breathtaking. That is why it is so hard for many people to believe that he is actually self-taught. I know I personally couldn’t believe it but it is the truth and he has been doing it for quite a while. That is why we wanted to take some of our favourite works from his art pieces and showcase them in one comprehensive list. These are by no means the best ones out of the bunch since I would go as far as to say each piece he creates has its own dark and unique story.
So just scroll below to enjoy.
I am nostalgic about the ‘80s and ‘90s. I love to resurrect characters from this era in a comic book style. In a style that is strongly influenced by legendary artists such as J. Scott Campbell and a duo that inspired me a lot in my teens (and continue to do so), Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo.I like to connect and associate different universes. I usually choose a character and try to insert it into a certain context, whether it is from a movie, series, or book. For example, mashing up Buzz Lightyear with Alien, Scooby & Shaggy with Into The Wild, Mario Bros with The Walking Dead, and so on. Like many artists, I would love to live only on my art.
However, the lack of opportunities and a little bit of self-esteem, too, hinders me from taking bigger steps forward in this career. I have many drafts and ideas that will soon materialize on a piece of paper. It’s things like Hellboy, ThunderCats, and, most definitely, Rick and Morty, who are currently the two characters I like to draw the most. –Marcelo Ventura
Marcelo has over 150 k followers on Instagram right now and while they might seem like a lot, it isn’t nearly enough especially when you take into account the amazing level of detail in each of his works. And if you love his art style as much as I do and want to frame it on your bedroom wall, then you are in luck. Because you can buy whatever size of painting you want right here without any hassle. So go over there and support him!
