Incels existed before the invention of the Internet.
Incels, or “involuntary celibates,” existed long before the Internet. This subculture of men who feel rejected by women and society has its origins in offline communities and social interactions. While the word as a whole is relatively new, incels have always blamed women for everything. Rather than focusing on their own shortcomings or working on themselves, they expect women to pay attention to them as if they are entitled to it.
This entitlement and bitterness towards women have manifested themselves in a variety of ways throughout history, including in misogynistic literature and violent acts. The rise of the Internet has simply provided a platform for individuals to connect and spread their harmful beliefs. Surprisingly, no one becomes an incel overnight, and it all begins with small steps. That is why it is critical to pay attention if someone close to you begins to exhibit the types of behaviour described in the following example.
Calling your partner names is never a good way to communicate.
Having different opinions is okay, but can a relationship work when the basic ideology is so different?
Apparently, OP’s husband has always been conservative and was a fan of an influencer who called every guy a simp.
He was one of those influencers who looked at images of couples and arbitrarily pointed out how the guy was leaning towards the woman, which made him submissive.
OP talked to her husband about his being a fan of this influencer, but he assured her that it was only a joke, so she let it go.
However, things took a turn when she noticed that he would never lean in when they took a picture together, and this irritated her quite a lot.
As someone who spends a lot of time on the internet, I’ve seen videos of random men on the internet talking about how celebrity couples aren’t good because the guy is leaning in towards the woman or something ridiculous like that. To be honest, I always thought it was hilarious and couldn’t understand how anyone could take it seriously, but it appears that many people adhere to this type of ideology. After all, so many people followed Andrew Tate and others like him for a reason, rather than treating everyone with equal respect and treating everyone as human beings, regardless of gender.
If somebody said that to me, I would leave them right there and then.
He is truly a simp for the influencer.
What is so wrong about caring for your partner anyway?
I am sure this isn’t the only thing where the husband employs alpha male ideology.
What are your thoughts on how the husband behaved? Do you believe the OP overdramatized the situation and could have handled it better? What would you do if you were in this situation?
