Father-In-Law Goes To A Job Interview For The First Time In 38 Years, Ruins It By Trying To Steal The Job Of CFO

Finding a job has become easier for young people but more challenging for older individuals. Previously, older generations could simply “show up and ask for a job.” Now, they must create perfect résumés, search for opportunities online, maintain a LinkedIn profile, and possess digital skills. These tasks become more difficult with age, and employers often prefer younger candidates over those nearing retirement.

A Redditor shared a story about their 59-year-old father-in-law, who lost his job after 38 years with the same company. After two months of struggling to find new work, his son arranged an interview for him at his own workplace. Instead of being thankful, the father-in-law embarrassed his son in front of colleagues and management, acting inappropriately and showcasing a generational gap in job-seeking behavior.

1. I want to know how one steals another person’s job. Let’s jump in.

2. OP’s FIL got laid off after working for 38 years at the same company.

3. FIL was convinced he would easily get a new job but months kept passing away and he didn’t receive a single call back.

4. FIL then forced his son to have a job interview arranged at his friend’s company.

5. On the day of the interview, FIL made sure everyone, from the receptionist to the interviewer, knew how rude he was.

6. Throughout the interview, he bullied the interviewers, feeling extremely entitled because the CFO didn’t interview him.

I don’t understand why his interview was an actual interview when he was this rude to the interviewers. I would have kicked his butt out of the office. There is no place for egoistical and entitled people in any organization. Just because you worked 38 years at one company doesn’t mean you can do the same at another…or ever.

FIL would have to rethink his strategy if he wants to get a job offer. Let’s see what happens next.

7. At the end of the job interview, the CFO and CEO paid a visit to join the interview; however, OP still didn’t stop and even began berating them.

8. When asked about how the interview went, FIL only bragged.

9. OP believes his delusional mindset would never get him a job.

10. The way he acted throughout the story makes him qualify for the boomer category.
