Deciding to put your dog to sleep is never easy, especially since they are beloved family members. It becomes even harder when the reason is your dog’s behavior, not their health. This can make you feel guilty, wondering if you let your dog down. However, sometimes behavioral euthanasia is the only ethical choice. Simply put, some dogs are too dangerous to keep around.
In today’s story, we have Reddit user Ouchthathurt123 who has been dating her boyfriend for nine months. His close-knit, yet overbearing family lives nearby, along with his four-year-old terrier mix. When they first started dating, the OP noticed the dog’s bad behavior—nipping, growling, not house-trained, and very unpredictable. Yet, everyone else thought he was the best dog ever.
One day, while having a BBQ in the garden, the dog bit the OP. The doctor said it was a severe bite and that the dog might need to be put down.
What happened next is for you guys to read and find out. Scroll down below to enjoy!
1. How did they make her being bitten her fault? Let’s find out!
2. While dating her boyfriend for 9 months, she noticed her boyfriend’s terrier mix was very behavioral and unpredictable.
3. However, no one in the boyfriend’s family considers it that way.
4. The first time it happened, the dog nipped OP while everyone was gathered, and the boyfriend’s family laughed it off.
5. In the next instance, he had his mouth around OP’s wrist and ripped her top. Again, it was considered normal by the family.
6. OP’s boyfriend began noticing she wasn’t comfortable around it, so he started keeping it away from her.
7. On a recent occasion, while gathered at a BBQ with her boyfriend and his family, the dog kept eyeing OP’s plate, wanting food from it.
8. This resulted in the dog jumping on OP, ripping her clothes, and biting her wrist with full force. All while the family members laughed.
9. The mother got the dog off OP and blamed her for screaming and not giving the dog what it wanted.
10. It was a serious bite, and the doctors told OP the dog could be put down for it. She told this to her boyfriend so he could let his family know how serious the matter was.
11. While the boyfriend’s family continued to blame OP for what happened at the BBQ party, OP was unsure if she really was at fault or not.
This is one of those question stories that has the answer in it. OP got bitten by a dog, and it was declared a seriously dangerous bite by the doctor. Serious enough that if reported, the dog could be put down for it. And what did the boyfriend’s family do? They laughed at OP and blamed her for triggering the dog by not giving it food from her plate.
I think OP needs to reconsider her relationship with her boyfriend because, if this is something serious, these people are her potential in-laws. While we know OP’s boyfriend loves being with his family members, it will be crazy to have such in-laws on your head at all times.
12. In an update, OP shared that after crying in her room, she went back downstairs and wanted to talk to her boyfriend.
13. OP told her boyfriend that she wanted to go home and asked if he could drop her off or lend some money to buy a train ticket, for which she got called stupid.
14. While OP said she felt uncomfortable staying there and had a bad wrist injury, the boyfriend and his family called her a drama queen.
15. The boyfriend shouted at OP and gave her the train fare. She packed and left, and had to walk for 90 minutes to get to the station.
16. OP was so angry that she didn’t respond to any calls or texts from her boyfriend. OP waited till she was calmer.
17. OP agreed with the point that the dog shouldn’t be put down, but rather be trained to control its behavior.
18. In the end, OP thanked some of the kindest commentators.
19. To people who said OP should’ve given it the food, she responded by saying she was never fond of giving dogs human food because it had the potential to make them sick. So thoughtful!
