Employee Leaves Store Unlocked Overnight Because Of Irresponsible Coworkers And Manager

employee-store-fi

Working in shifts can be tough, especially when you’re stuck waiting for the next person to arrive. It’s frustrating when they’re late, but it’s even worse when they don’t show up at all. Sadly, some people don’t realize that their actions affect others. They need a reality check because their irresponsibility costs someone else their time.

This was the experience of Reddit user u/DiamondUnlucky, who shared their story of waiting for a replacement that never came. They tried calling the manager to lock the store, but even the manager was unreachable. Left with no choice, they called the police to watch over the gas station and went home.

1. Let’s jump in and find out what happened.

2. OP works at a 24-hour gas station, and recently the management has been facing issues with workers calling out or not showing up for their shifts.

3. The same happened with OP. As his shift ended at 10, the worker who had to start the third shift didn’t show up. OP contacted his manager, but she was fast asleep.

4. While waiting for the coworker and manager to call back, OP also contacted other employees to ask if they could put in a shift, but there was no luck.

5.WIth no other options, OP decided to close the store but didn’t have the keys either. So he called the police to look after the place and left.

6. OP asked the internet for advice to know what he should do in a worst-case scenario.

OP needs to worry about nothing. He already did so much. He called the coworker who was supposed to show up for the third shift, he called his manager to have the matter resolved, and he even called other coworkers to ask if anyone could volunteer for the third shift. It is not his fault that none of the above worked out. Still, he didn’t abandon the store and called the local police to look after it as he didn’t have the keys to lock the main door.

I think OP needs to look for a new job because who in their right mind doesn’t provide the worker on shift the keys to the main door? Shows how much they trust him.

7. In an update OP shared that the next day he called the manager to ask if everything was good and she had no complaints.

8. However, when OP said he wouldn’t be coming in that day, it kind of made her pause for a second before approving the leave…as if they still weren’t ready to fully accommodate OP.

9. In a second update OP added his manager contacted him to request not to tell anyone about what happened the day he had to close the store. OP thought that by hiding the facts, the manager might get into much deeper trouble.
