Defends Coworker

A boss flirting with an employee is disgusting.

In a professional setting, it is critical to respect boundaries and ensure that all individuals feel comfortable and safe. When a boss flirts with their employee, it can lead to an inappropriate and potentially harmful power dynamic. This behaviour is not only unprofessional, but it can also cause discomfort for the employee. Even if it appears to be harmless flirting on the surface, we must keep in mind the power dynamics at play. Even a bad job can be the only way for many people to make money.

This means that the individual is then stuck in a position where they must endure their boss’s constant hara**ment in order to earn money. And, while HR is supposed to handle situations like this, they don’t always do it, and there’s always the fear of being fired if you bring it up with anyone else. So many people prefer to remain silent. However, there are times when the individual is not fully aware of what is going on. This is especially true in cases where the individual struggles to distinguish between social cues.

A boss should respect their employee’s boundaries.

OP has worked at a restaurant for quite a bit and works alongside Alyssa, who is hit on by the boss constantly.

Alyssa has autism, which means that the boss’s flirty remarks usually go over her head, and she never responds as one would expect.

Alyssa is also not only much younger than the boss but also happily married.

Alyssa is apparently also a Lakers fan because OP has seen her wearing a Lakers shirt sometimes.

Alyssa and her husband are big fans of the Lakers, so the boss decided to gift her two tickets to a Lakers game.

Alyssa accepted the two tickets and took her husband with her to the game, which was expected.

The boss was pretty stunned by this and thought it was rude that she didn’t take him, which made the OP point out the obvious.

When OP said something about the situation, the boss got angry with him and sent him home.

OP has decided to quit and will also speak with Alyssa’s husband about the boss’s constant rude remarks.

The OP also made it clear that she genuinely doesn’t understand the rude remarks, rather than intentionally ignoring them.

Alyssa’s husband is also apparently well-off, so she doesn’t really need a job.

OP also got confirmation that she indeed has autism, and the boss might know this as well.

The boss’s behaviour is straight-up scummy.

OP was finally able to tell Alyssa’s husband, and thankfully, OP will also not be returning to this restaurant ever again.

Honestly, I’m glad the OP defended her. She seems like a wonderful person, and no one should have to go through what her boss is putting her through. It’s truly disgusting behaviour, and he shouldn’t have given her a ticket in the first place if he wanted her to accompany him. He should have known right away that she would accompany her husband. I can also understand why the OP no longer wants to work at a place like this. I hope the woman also leaves, because this does not appear to be a safe place for her to work.

I would not be able to work at such a place either.

To be fair, talking to her about it might have been a good idea as well.

The boss needed to be taught a lesson.

To be fair, responding with a literal statement to a flirty remark is a great way to combat people’s gross behaviour.

I have to somewhat agree that he should have spoken to Alyssa directly about the issue.
