Daughter Wants To Enforce Same Rules As Mother Did On Her To Give Her Taste Of Her Own Medicine

Sometimes parents treat their children in a way that they consider to be very harsh. And then that child becomes capable, they feel an urge to take revenge. They feel the need to give the taste of their own medicine to their parents.

In today’s story, that is exactly what this 19-year-old’s plan was. Reddit user u/Hour-Sort8656 shared that her relationship with her mom wasn’t the best and it was because of rules. She had enforced terrible food rules on OP that didn’t allow her to take food from the kitchen without permission, she would place locks on the kitchen cabinets and the fridge so OP wouldn’t be able to access food, she wouldn’t give her lunch for school or any money to buy lunch from school. The list goes on.

After moving to university, OP got the news her mother was going to come visit her for the first time since then. OP decided when her mother would arrive, she would give her a taste of her own medicine by enforcing the same food rules on her. When OP shared this plan with her boyfriend, he said this would be immature and would only result int he relationship worsening.

This made OP share this story on the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if doing so would make her a terrible person or not.

2. Ever since OP joined university, her mother was coming to see her, from abroad, for the very first time.

3. OP shared her mother was very abus*ve towards her when it came to food.

This is so weird. I am so curious to know more.

4. The kids were never allowed to take from the kitchen without taking permission.

5. She even placed locks on cabinets and the fridge so the kids wouldn’t “steal” food from there. Just to be extra sure, she even had cameras installed in the kitchen.

6. She would blame OP for having food issues just because she would see OP going to the kitchen one too many times.

7. OP’s mother won’t even give her food to take with her to school…nor would she give her money to buy it from there.

What the actual fu*k is going on here? No, seriously. What are these rules? Did someone stop this mom’s food when she was young? Even if someone did, her daughter wasn’t involved. Why did she do this to her daughter? This is so out of my mind.

8. Whenever her mom and stepdad would get takeaways, they would only get them for themselves.

Selfish parents! That is all I can think of.

Oh my god. I don’t know where the story is going to go from this point on but from what I have read so far, this mother is a terrible human being. You enforce such “food rules” on their own children? I literally read this term for the first time in my life because it is so crazy. I mean, I really am kind of curious and anxious to know the mother’s motivation behind this all. The title gives us an idea of what is going to happen next but wow, I am seriously shocked by this behavior of OP’s mother.

9. After sharing the way OP had been treated by her mother with regard to food, she said she plans to enforce the same “food rules” on her mom when she arrives.

10. OP shared the entire plan with her boyfriend.

11. OP wanted to cross every limit to let her mother know how terrible those food rules made her feel.

12. OP’s boyfriend gave advice against the plan. He said by doing this the relationship between her and her mother will deteriorate even further.

13. But OP just wanted to give her mother a solid taste of her own medicine. Confused about whether to proceed with her plan or to drop it, she turned towards the AITA community to ask if she would be a terrible person for enforcing the same food rules on her mom to teach her a lesson.

I would like to say something important here. This thing that OP is planning to do with her mother, Do you think any good will come out of this? I mean, if she keeps going for months upon months trying to give her mother the “taste of her own medicine” she would be simply wasting those precious months. I hope OP learns the concept of opportunity cost which allows her to learn she could use that time elsewhere which may result in a positive outcome. This, that OP wishes to do, is going to generate zero outcomes. Lost time never returns, so please OP reconsider this.

I won’t declare her an AH nor would I clear her because she is trying to walk on a path that will end up ruining no one else but her own soul.
