Foresight is essential in any business.

In today’s fast-paced business world, senior management decisions can have a significant impact on a company’s success and longevity. Unfortunately, some leaders lack the foresight to consider the long-term consequences of their actions and may enact rules that will ultimately harm the organisation. This lack of strategic thinking can result in missed opportunities, low employee morale, and, eventually, a drop in overall performance.

While no one is a psychic and business is all about taking risks, there are ways to reduce these risks. Listen to what your employees have to say about employee issues. Don’t do whatever you want. For example, implementing a new uniform without consulting with your employees is a big no-no, especially if you don’t consider the weather and their work. It may not seem like a big deal, but a bad uniform can have a significant negative impact, as demonstrated in the following story.

Some companies hire people just to stand there and look pretty, but this story is a bit more complicated.

OP works in an industry that is similar to warehousing, so everyone wears a polo shirt.

While OP mainly does administration tasks, she will sometimes go outside to do things that are required of her.

Things were going well at work until some higher-ups decided to change their uniforms.

The new unfirm was a three-piece suit, and it was tight-fitting, which made it uncomfortable.

Not only that but since it had so many layers, it wasn’t really appropriate for the summer heat.

OP was clear with the higher-ups that the uniform wasn’t a good idea, but they placated her by saying she would only do administration work.

Since they were listening to her, she decided to do exactly what she was asked to do.

Since they wanted OP to only do desk work, she decided to do exactly that and never even get up from the desk.

Rather than dealing with problems as they came, OP just pushed back all of the tasks if any of her teammates got sick.

This went on for a few months, and complaints piled up, so the HR department called her for a meeting.

They tried to blame everyone but themselves, but the OP reminded them that the university and their promise were the issues here.

She was clear that it was impossible to work like she had done before in such a restrictive uniform.

They finally realised their mistake and promised OP that it would soon be resolved.

They resolved the issue by removing the new uniforms and going back to the polo shirt, which was the best idea they had.

I understand wanting all of the employees who would interact with clients to appear presentable and a little dressed up, but this was a bad idea from the start. Employees were required to wear far too many layers in the heat. The clothing was also pretty restrictive, making it difficult for OP and her coworkers to do their jobs properly. The higher-ups assumed that there would be no loss of productivity, but they quickly realised their mistake when complaints began to arrive.

She clearly did something here.

I cannot even imagine wearing such a uniform to work in the summer.

It would be a good idea for OP to look for a new job as a backup.

I don’t think OP is being paid enough.

The sun that burns the brightest also lasts for the shortest time.
