Teenager Babysits For Her Aunt And Uncle, Family Drama Ensues After She Asks To Get Paid Full-Time

Babysitting is a challenging job and is usually paid.

Hiring a babysitter usually costs a lot, this is why people prefer not to hire a babysitter and they would usually ask their family members to watch their kids so they can save some money. But that does not mean you should not pay your family member for watching your kids. Your kids are your kids, if someone is watching them for you, you should definitely pay them. You should not expect them to do it for free just because they are family. A teenager shared with the Reddit community that she has been babysitting her twin cousins for her aunt and uncle. Babysitting these 1-year-old twins is restricting her from finding a full-time job so she asked her aunt to pay her £80 a week which was even less than a full-time job.

Her aunt fumed after hearing this and told her that she is entitled and shouldn’t charge the family. OP’s aunt further went to social media and wrote that she would never pay someone for the easy job of taking care of two babies. OP’s mother has stopped talking to her sister since then. OP routinely babysits her aunt and uncle’s baby as they both work:

Aunt and uncle have two twins who are 1 year old and one boy is 8 year old but he is in school. OP primarily takes care of the twins.

OP clearly told her aunt and uncle that the babysitting is restricting her from looking for a job and she would only continue if they paid her £80 a week which is far less than a full-time job.

OP’s uncle and aunt make good money so paying her £80 a week should not be a problem for them.

OP’s aunt blew up after listening to what OP had to say. She began to tell her that she has free access to Wi-Fi and their food.

OP pointed out that she doesn’t get time to use the Wi-Fi and that he cannot eat their food as she is vegan and have to bring her own food.

OP’s aunt took the matter to social media and ranted about how entitled OP is and that she wouldn’t pay someone for the easy job of taking care of two babies.

OP’s mother is not talking to her sister after all of this. OP feels bad for causing this family drama.

OP’s aunt is definitely exploiting her. This teenage girl can do so much in life but her aunt is restricting her to get a full-time job by putting her twins’ responsibility on her. OP should get a full-time job and should stop watching her aunt’s babies. And, aunt should get a full-time babysitter and pay her so she would know how costly babysitters are.

OP is being used as a full-time nanny for free. She should immediately stop babysitting for her aunt.

OP can earn more than £80 with fewer hours of work.

OP should live her life and let her aunt and uncle figure this out on their own.

OP should find a job where she would be paid for the labor she is providing.

Occasional babysitting can be done for free but full-time babysitting should be paid.

OP’s aunt should pay her £900 per week. She should not accept less than that.

OP’s aunt is saving money by exploiting her.
