Reddit user u/Lolarora has a sister who is mentally disabled. She was born with a mental illness that caused her brain damage making her lose all capabilities of doing anything that a normal human can do. The issue was their mother remained in a state of denial. She believed her daughter would get okay one day and because of this, she spent every single penny she had ever made and saved on doctors and whatnot. This resulted in OP struggling through his entire life as everything for his mother was about his younger sister, Jess. He would have to take her everywhere with him which resulted in him losing all his friends. That is just one thing out of the many struggles OP had to go through in life because his mother wouldn’t accept that nothing can be done about her special needs daughter.

3. OP’s 16-year-old disabled sister cannot do any activity a normal human can.
4. Their mother has spent everything she had hoping for a miracle, that maybe her younger daughter will finally wake up fine one day.
5. The family had to live in a 1-bedroom apartment because OP’s mother had spent every dime trying to get her daughter fixed.
6. Well, biologically, she is OP’s real sister.
7. His mother would always make him take Jess (younger sister) everywhere he would go…making him lose all his friends.
8. One time her mother took Jess to a movie theatre and it was a messy experience.
9. Even when OP told his mother he is going on a date with a girl, she wanted him to take care of Jess because she herself was going out.
10. OP suggested she should hire a babysitter for Jess because he has a date to go to.
Denial. It can be so hazardous. It is eating the brain out of the very mother who is hopelessly hoping for a miracle that would fix her brain de*d daughter. She doesn’t realize in this failed process she is causing brain damage to her son. She is ruining lives all around.
