A little competition never hurts anyone.

Many people have a competitive streak, which is usually a good thing because it motivates people to strive for greater and greater success over time. Nobody wants to stagnate and remain the same. However, it is critical to recognise when competitiveness becomes unhealthy or harmful to relationships and overall well-being. Maintaining positive relationships and a sense of community requires striking a balance between healthy competition and cooperation. It’s also important to remember that winning isn’t everything and that the journey and growth that come with competition can be more valuable than the end result.

A little competition is always welcome, but only if you aren’t a sore loser and don’t become so obsessed with swimming that you forget to enjoy the experience. Not only that, but an obsessive desire to win can detract from the experience for everyone else in the competition. After all, not every competition is the Olympics, and some people simply want to have fun. At least that was the nature of the dog Olympics, which a small community created exclusively for themselves. It was supposed to be a fun, lighthearted event to benefit the local shelter. However, when a new neighbour moved in, everything changed quickly.

OP was the one that basically started the dog Olympics, and it was supposed to be a fun experience for everyone in their neighbourhood.

It was, of course, the Home Owners Society’s idea that their neighbourhood needed something fun to liven things up.

There were even prizes for each category, and everyone had a funny and silly time while competing.

Most of the people also elected to donate their winnings, which was a great boon to all the helters in their area.

Things were all going well until a new neighbour moved in with a famous poodle who was used to competing in competitions.

Since this particular doggo was a show dog, he won most of the categories, and all of the prizes went to the new neighbour.

The woman also didn’t donate any of the winnings, so it changed the whole atmosphere of the dog Olympics.

The committee even decided on the ‘no competition dogs’ rule, but that was soon changed when the poodle owner went ballistic over her exclusion.

That is why OP decided to cancel the dog Olympics outright so that there weren’t any more issues with anyone.

People in the neighbourhood aren’t sure if OP did the right thing, so now OP is on Reddit, asking for other people’s opinions.

The woman seems to be obsessed with winning. Don’t get me wrong, winning something can be fun, and I’m sure the money doesn’t hurt, but she doesn’t realise she’s ruining the experience for everyone else. Not only that, but she does not donate her winnings to the shelter, altering the entire nature of the competition.

It’s surprising that she went so far as to prevent the rules from changing so she could continue competing. So I believe the original poster (OP) of the story is entirely correct in cancelling the dog Olympics outright.

The behaviour of the poodle lady is really tone-deaf.

Whenever HOA’s involved, everything gets ruined.

Even if she didn’t understand at first, she would eventually understand when the rule change happened.

To be fair, a dog Olympics sounds like quite a lot of fun.
