Husband Refuses Neighbors Kid Use Pool Without Their Mom’s Presence

In this story, the child down the street approached a neighbor which is OP who recently installed a pool, asking if he could swim. The neighbor, initially hesitant because their pool area was still under construction, agreed on the condition that the child’s parent would accompany him. However, when the child returned with swimwear and no parent in sight, one of the homeowners allowed him to swim while contacting the child’s mother.

Subsequently, one of the homeowners expressed their concerns about this situation and their reluctance to have the child visit the pool unattended regularly. They mentioned their intention to set clear ground rules that require parental supervision when the child wants to use the pool. This is to avoid feeling obligated to supervise the child and ensure their family’s privacy and comfort are respected.

The homeowner’s spouse had a different perspective, suggesting that they could simply inform the child that they were going inside when he showed up, though the concerned neighbor felt it was essential to establish these boundaries early on.

Keep on scrolling down below to read the story narrated by OP and make sure to read it till the end.

1. OP put in a pool a few months ago but its pool deck is still in progress, one day a kid down the street asked OP if he could swim, and OP replied yes he could if his mom was coming over.

2. The kid came back after 10 minutes in swim trunks OP’s wife let him go but OP told her wife that he’s going to parents to tell them there was a rule, which is no parent no pool.

3. OP said the kid is quite a bit older and just because people are fine with him running around the neighborhood it doesn’t mean OP wants him to stop by uninvited every time he sees them outside

4. OP wants to know if would he be an A-hole for saying he just can’t come by every time they are out back

5. For everyone who is worried OP said he already increased our HO liability and purchased a PUPP policy on top to cover the excess liability

7.  Exactly, OP’s private pool isn’t a community pool.

8. Maybe he is just telling his parents that he’s using the neighbor’s pool rather than asking his parents to come

12. This user is definitely right, OP is not responsible for taking care of other kids, but if something happens to them then OP is responsible. So it’s a fair rule no parent no pool.
